Have you thought about putting that contaminated piece in a sandwich bag or ziplock and then it would be safe to store alongside it’s unmolested “mother-bar” without risk of contamination?
I prefer a pearl weave microfiber with laser cut edges. AutoGeek sells them made by Cobra(popularized by MP when he was around)it would appear the 12 packs are out of stock on AG but you can find...
Let me start by saying that none of my vehicles have a front plate (I make sure to let the dealers know if they screw a plate holder into my bumper they will loose the sale). That being said I know...
I have worked on cars where the owner just purchased a new-used high end car and asked me to coat it for them. Then once I started to wash the vehicle it becomes obvious that it is already...
I have many 150mm wool and foam pads that I use with my 5” backing plate. The Velcro loop on the backing of the 150mm pad is 5” in diameter and the pad face is 150mm.
As an ex-tire jockey in a way-past-(college job)-life that white stuff isn’t grease but tire mounting soap. Should come off easily with a damp microfiber. Enjoy the snow traction.
I did a bunch of research on what to coat PPF with(or not to coat it). In the end I went with Dlux, on a a Suntec film. Seemed to work well without impacting the PPF.
How do you find it more difficult to apply? As with any new tire dressing I just did a deep clean of the tire as I do anytime when I’m applying a new product to ensure it “bonds” as well as possible....
Another 10 days (3 1/2 weeks) of sloppy snow with a short reprieve where I was able to clean the car with Darkside applied to tires. After a light scrub with a detail factory tire brush to remove...
So far, quite happy with it I only applied one layer and it has a nice semi-gloss sheen which I prefer(black without greasy gloss), seems to dry so the tire looks dressed without an oily transfer...
I’ve been looking for a new tire coating applicator and found this handle applicator and pads kit at the “big river” selling place for under $10.

The handle is for 3” (~75mm)polishing pads...
I’ve been playing with a couple of Tire Dressings and applicators…
So far both of these have been test driven on two daily drivers in Colorado snow and sun for the past two weeks.
VW paint is generally tough as nails, it’s a new car so I’d use those Rupes yellow pads with CarPro Essence. Essence finishes very well and serves double duty as being a polish/primer for coatings.
Having maintained quite a few VAG(VW Auto Group) cars, I’d invest in some Rupes Yellow wool or Micofiber pads and CarPro Ultra Cut. It’s aggressive enough to where you can make great improvements on...
I'd bring your car back to the place that did your coating and see what they recommend first... It's likely etched into the coating and nothing is going to revive it aside from a polish and to...
I went down the Leather and Alcantara maintenance rabbit hole a short while back. All but the most expensive vehicles use an auto leather that is coated (similar to the clear coat on paint)and...
Interesting Mike,
Please make sure to report back on your experience as I’m sure I’m not the only one intrigued. Also an idea of what it finally cost you?
UV protection is in the clear coat, some cars have better clears than others Toyota, Honda and Chrysler vans up till just a few years ago had the worst cases of clear coat failure.
I totally agree with DesertNate. My first venture in to coatings was with CQUK and I found it to be really easy once I made it past the fear of F’n it up. I did find a high spot in the shadow around...
