Re: Toy-Hauler 5'ver w/ Gel Coat, oxidation removal
I picked up a HF rotary this past weekend to use on my 18' boat, but I'm having a hard time on which wool pads to use? I saw that you picked yours up from HF, but did they have one for compounding and one for polishing? Or did you use the same type of pad for each step?
Looks like your work is paying off! Nice job!

Dave - I picked up the 5-pack of white wool pads at HF when I bought the rotary. They worked great for compounding. To date, I have destroyed one (caught it on a corner edge piece and ripped it - It went in the trash) and I've used the second one to do over half the trailer. Still in great shape, and will continue using it for the side the I have left.
For the marine polish/sealant, I'm using my GG6 DA with red CCS pads. Easy and quick with the DA. Took about 6 hours to compound an entire side with the rotary, but only about 2 hours to polish it with the DA. Once you have a nice clean surface, the final step is cake!

Re: Toy-Hauler 5'ver w/ Gel Coat, oxidation removal
Ditch the Starbrite and get some M67 or 3M Marine Compound and Finishing Material and then apply the armor-like protection of Collinite 845, or 885, and be done. Two products capable of removing some heavy oxidation with wool and a rotary that polishes down real nice thanks to diminishing abrasives, then apply one of the two waxes mentioned, that are awesome, and call it done.
We had been using the Starbrite product for year, unimpressed I might add, but we've since moved on.
