Interesting use of Rupes on Subaru paint...
Makes me want to get a Duetto just to modify it like this. Pretty sure Rupes would laugh at me if it broke though

Kai introduces some cool products.
I have all the backing plates he offers and use them regularly on my Rupes machines (When I'm not using the PE14). Wish the compounds/polishes were available to try.

Was the "modification" the backing plate and the "devil gear oil?". I have a hard time believing that changing gear oil does anything measureable to the polisher...

I run a Dry Sump Lubrication system on mine
Requires a backpack/pump apparatus, but I do get an additional 4,000 RPM's

Would you recommend the backing plate for the Rupes 15? I like what I'm seeing in the video and from the design of it. It's 100 bucks though.
There's some sort of mod to the motor that gives it "speed 7" as I'm led to believe. That seems to be pretty awesome, but I found his technique with the machine to be really cool, definitely something to give a shot next time working on finicky paint.

That's so weird. I rarely take mine pad speed 4, unmodded.

I saw some photos posted with the modifications he's made to machines he's "tuned".
The pic had an attachment and a bunch of wires of what looked to be the electrical module of the polisher. IDK I'll have to dig it up, I have it saved somewhere.
Regarding the BP he produces, I have enjoyed using them all. I have the 3" for the Duetto, the 5" Beast for my 21, and the Katana for my 15. They're all smooth. It's like the washer mod on steroids. $100 is not worth the "benefits" for most people as the Stock BP will get the job done.
The only downside I've faced with the billet plates are that they heat up quick! That and you have to be careful not to let the plate bump into anything...if it does, it's going to damage it.

P.S. There's a thread over on Autopia discussing the topic of these plates.
I've been meaning to get a review/comparison of this vs 5"BP with washer mod, just haven't had the chance to write it all up.
Shoot me a PM or search the thread over on the sister site and we can carry on the conversation. I don't want to break any rules here on AG.
