In for update as well. I have a Rupes15 and the backing plate gets wicked hot but no black stuff coming off.

Sorry for taking so long. I had to cancel some appointments, my son had to have an emergency appendectomy. The new backing plate burned up after a panel. I received my new 21 this past Friday and used it today. I have no issues with it so far. Mike and the Autogeek crew are awesome people to work with. Speaking of work, that's what this Rupes polisher does best. It annihilates paint defects. I just happened to get a bad one, it happens.

I strongly suggest you do the washer mod.

I have the same problem. The backing plate gest so hot that it literally melts the center of the pad. I have already destroyed 3 LC pads. The washer mod didn't change the situation. Another problem I have, my unit "shakes" like a champ when driven by the handle. I feel sorry for choosing Rupes over Flex. Rupes LHR15ES problem ?!: http://youtu.be/TdL6YUeXaDc
