Generally, I adjust the downward force on the polisher depending on what I'm doing, compounding, polishing, applying lsp. But I also adjust it based on the pad size. The smaller the pad, the less downward force is necessary because there is less area to share the load.

I was wondering if people also adjust the speed at which they polish depending on pad size?

I'm more careful with a larger pad's outer edge because the outer edge is spinning faster than the center. In one rotation the outer edge of a pad travels more distance than the center. So at 1000rpm, the outer 2" of the 7.5" pad are spinning faster than the outer edge of a 5.5" pad. Dropping the speed seems to make sense for a larger pad although it would change the effectiveness of the center of the pad. Does this mean that smaller pads are better for applying an LSP and for jeweling than a larger pad?

I'm just curious how people treat larger pads vs smaller pads on a rotary.
