Makita pooped out today - any ideas?!?!?

My makita died on me today....

    wasn't the plug
    wasn't the cord
    definitely was the makita

It started to go then stopped, then started to go then stopped, then started to - nope just stopped working. Any experience with this guys? If this needs to be repaired, is it cost effective? Is there a simple fix like takin it apart and doin something with it at home?

I thought maybe it overheated, but let it sit for about 30 minutes and it wouldn't come back on. I have run it for about a total time of 10-15 total hours since friday..... maybe a routine maintenance needing be done? Any clues guys?!?!?!?!?!?

The most common problems is were the cord goes inside that rubber sleeve. I had to take mine apart and cut out the bad piece and reinstall the cord not really a big deal . The other thing that comes to mind is you may of worn out the brushes which is also an easy job to replace .

The brush issue - that is a do it myself type deal?? Wish I hadn't left it at the shop or I would have it in pieces right now.

Is it a requirement to oil these???

I've actually had this polisher for 6 years! But, it got ran ragged for a year, retired for 4 years, and I have started to run it ragged again about 8 months ago. So this is my first issue with it.

How many hours are typical for these machines?!?!?

Sounds like you need new brushes. Check out the cord like Harleyguy said.

Cool thanx guys........... I suppose I'll order a new brush and hopefully that does it (after checking the cord tomorrow). Luckily I had just bought a new cyclo so I am able to finish my job tomorrow. I may go ahead and buy a new polisher and add it to my arsenal and try to repair this one as well - this was just horrible timing cause Im busy as could be right now!

    Seriously, thanx again gentlemen!

I've had to fix my cord several times where it goes into the housing. Not a big deal and only takes a minute. From my experience it's caused by the cord twisting and bending. I usually cut just behind where it is pinched and hook it back up and off i go. Mine has been going just about all day 5 days a week for the last two years and hasn't missed a beat, other than having to fix the cord once in a while.

i don't think so. i know that if it sits long enough in the right temperature a thick clear lubricant will leak out, but for the most part it seems to be contained (the lube).
