    3m Wool Pads & Sip

Which wool pad from 3M do you guys use? Can I us the original backing plate with my Makita rotary? How well does menzerna SIP perform with wool pads or is Megs 105 better?

I use the Super buff III pads which you do not need a backing plate for, they are double sided. You will need their adapter though. Sip and wool is not a very good combo, 105 and wool is a very nice combo for sure.

AR, can you just use the 105 or do you need to follow with 205 on a wool pad?

You can either follow it up with 105 on a white polishing pad or the same with 205. Then I always follow up with a finishing pad and polish. To me 205 just doesn't have the best final finish compared to UF, 85rd or Scholl's S40.

Why is SIP and wool not a good combo - care to elaborate?

To me I have never found it to do much or finish down as nice as I would like it to. I find it is a polish that works very well with foam instead of wool. To me some polish are meant for wool and some are meant for foam and a very few really work with both.

I understand if you are doing a "one stepper" but if you are going to follow up with a finer polish then I dont understand. I mean a medium compound and a wool is not supposed to leave a lsp surface. SIP with a wool pad and high rpm is a great combo to remove medium swirls on a harder paint.

I know wool and sip is not going to be lsp ready. It is just not a good combo period. I can use a polish and a foam pad to remove medium swirls on a hard paint, this way I don't have to break out the wool and then final polish after that. Maybe you should try that and see if that would work for you.

Anyway, I can agree that SIP works wonderful with foam but also with wool, the only thing is it that wool cut faster but with a duller finish.

My favourite now is PO203S with a foamed wool for correction, or PO203S with a LC green pad. Nice cut and a great gloss.

Today I used the new compound from Menzerna,Powergloss S100. Have you tried it?
