I don't think I have ever heard that claim about any detailing product.

I wouldn't reject it out of hand. Saw the kid at the propane place give his very tricked up truck a swipe with it as he left work for the day. Pretty sure its not awful. His truck looks better than 97% of the cars out there. All the time. That's not a bad protocol, and practical for those who don't make a hobby out of this. Probably anything bad can be fixed with a light polish, which, face it, we love to do.

BTW, I think the real deal is a "California duster" "Pacific Coast" duster sounds like a knock-off. This is one area where I wouldn't consider Brand X.

I don't use one these days but the main reason it causes scratching is because people put too much pressure on it.
Your suppose to kind of let the strings touch the paint to remove dust.

I'm wanting to get the mini for my interior, they sell a small "Dash" model, perfect for the interior.

Just making the point that it seems counterintuitive that the dirtier anything gets the better it works.

If that is truly the case, why do they also state:

"Care and Cleaning: The California Car Dusters work best when they’re dirty. Just shake them out before and after each use. Should your duster ever become so dirty that it requires an actual cleaning, just wash it in cold water with a mild detergent (like Woolite) and let it air dry."

Seems like shaking it out or washing would impair the performance of the California Duster

I found that a Swiffer Duster Refills, without the handle is ideal for light interior dust removal. It seems to trap the dust inside. I keep one tucked in the car at all times. Less than a buck each.

I use the CA Dustbuster and you are correct MOST people do not know how to use it. You are correct that you barely touch the surface with the duster. The strings just gently swipe at the dust. Most people just grind the duster and that makes me cringe!!!

As for the Mini Duster...DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME or MONEY!!! I bought it a few months back. It was useless and I ended up throwing it away!!

I have had my duster for at least a decade and it is filthy and still works great. I work at a grain elevator so the daily dust level is ridiculous.
