Yes, that's how i would interpret "pad dependent." Varying cuts are achieved depending on what type/kind of pad used. But i see all compounds and polishes as pad dependent, but with their own level of cut. For example, i can use a liquid wax as a lubricant for my wool pad, and i assure you even if the wax has zero cut, that combo will still cut and level paint, not as effective as wool+m105, but nonetheless will still work.

I personally prefer a compound with higher cut used with a pad with less cut, than a polish with less cut with a pad a higher cut. I get better results with it.

When I use swirl X i usually start with an Orange LC pad and then finish off with a black LC pad and got great results.

In the context the the term

Pad-Dependent

Is being used, it means you can adjust the gentleness of the product or the aggressiveness of the product by adjusting the gentleness of your application pad or the aggressiveness of your application pad.

If you look at the paint on the hood after I compounded it with a wool pad using a rotary buffer there are buffers swirls or holograms in the paint. I purposefully showed this in the thread because this is normal and to be expected when using a compound with a wool fiber buffing pad on a rotary buffer.

What I didn't show was I could use a foam polishing pad with the exact same compound and leave a virtually swirl free finish just by changing the pad material.

The demo was to show a two step approach using a "System Approach", but you can modify your approach anyway you like and you can do this by substituting different pads for different procedures to get different results.

While all products are affected by application choice and application method, SMAT products offer a wider spectrum of of ability since the abrasives don't break down and you can stop buffing at anytime during the process.

That is pretty funny. Don't forget application with cheap rough bath towels or the towels that the guys at the local swirl-o-matic drop on the ground then use to buff your paint.
