Product Comparison: Griot's Garage 6in and Porter Cable 7424xp
I think this thread will be beneficial to newbies looking to buy a polisher kit from autogeek , and often always ask , "which polisher should I buy? And why ? What are the differences"
So here it is the famous Porter cable 7424xp
Attachment 41395
And here is the beloved griots garage 6 inch
Attachment 41396
Let's start with some specs.
And see who wins in the power department
Porter cable 7424xp
Motor size :4.5 amp 500 watt
OPMS (orbits per minute) 2500-6800
Griot's Garage 6 inch
Motor size: 7amp 850 watt
OPMS (orbits per minute) 2500-6800
It's obvious we have a winner in power on the Griots Garage 6 inch.
Now if your a newbie and intimidated by more power and leaning towards the Porter cable for its safety , please be assured that the Griots Garage 6 inch is just as safe.
(It's also nice when you get better and more experienced at polishing to have that extra power when you need it)
This is everything your going to get with your 7424xp.
polishing attachment
Wrench
Handle attachment
Instructions
These are on the side of the polisher you can either put the handle to the left or right
The handle is a little odd to me, I feel they made it too long , if they made it a little bit closer to the head maybe I would like it better.
But it is better to keep your hand on top of the polisher for even pressure anyway especially if your a newbie
Now let's take a look at the Griots Garage 6 inch
This is what you're going to get with your gg6
6 inch backing plate
Wrench
Allen key to adjust the handle to liking
Extra brushes
Instructions
The instructions are EXCELLENT info for a newbie (I know it's just directions) but a newbie can actually learn alot from reading it. It has alot of useful information
Thumps up for griots on that
There's back of the box , I like that they made some graphics explaining the defect and paint animation it is very important when doing anything to understand what you are doing and the nature of the beast.
The handle is removable and adjustable, I am not a fan of handles however this handle is much more user friendly and more comfortable.
Those are the bolts you can loosen to adjust the handle to your position liking, or remove it completely.
Now let's do a side by side comparison
The griots garage 6 inch is a tad heavier
The Porter cable is 5 and a half lbs.
I couldn't find the weight for the gg6 but my guess is 6 lbs maybe.
The griots garage chassis is a little longer as well but they both feel comfortable in the hands.
This is the Porter cable switch easy on easy off, it's a breeze to put on and off and the Porter cable clearly wins this battle.
One of the things I do dislike about this machine is the awkward on and off switch it is angled weird and on the tougher side to put it on.
Speed dial for the gg6 goes to 1-6
The speed dial goes to the left.
Porter cable speed dial goes to 1-6
This speed dial goes to the right.
There is no winner or loser of the speed dial there almost identical besides direction.
Either machine is a great choice.
And whatever one you choose, can and will make your paint shiny.
Autogeek offers excellent starter kits, that can not only save you money but make your life easy.
So the moment of truth which one should you go with ?
If I had to choose it would be the griots garage 6 inch.
Why ? The answer is power.
The Porter cable is a great newbie machine, (not to mention I still use it for almost every correction I do still)
The Porter cable is all the power a newbie might need, however once the newbie gets experienced more power will be desired.
That is where I feel the gg6 you can grow into , as the Porter cable you can grow out of.
The power is there if you need it.
Kind of like a sport mode in a sports car, the gg6 has economy mode and sports mode.
Either polisher is a great choice, if you have any questions don't be afraid to message or ask.
What are you waiting? Go order.
