    Review:Meguiars Perfect Clarity Glass Cleaner

Auto Glass Research Project Product Review:
    Meguiars Perfect Clarity Glass Cleaner

    Price Point:
    $5.47
    24 oz .23 Cents / oz

    Note:
Price is all over the place on this product.
Price ranging from $4.50 - $10.00 + depending on vendor.

    Advertisement:
    - Professional grade glass cleaner.
    - Can be used under the sun.
    - Glass stays cleaner, longer with dust repellent technology.
    - Leaves behind streak free perfect clarity glass.
    - Unique chemical containing lubricant that creates an easy slide effect with no residue.
    - Pro strength for quick and easy cleaning.

    Ingredients:
    - Water
    - MSDS Chemical:
    ETHYLENE GLYCOL MONOBUTYL ETHER: 1% - 5%
    ISOPROPANOL: 1% - 5%
    pH 4.5 - 5.5

    General thoughts and impressions:
    - Great scent. Classic Meguiars scent. Bubble gum meets Quik Detail Spray.
    - While I love the scent, not sure the scent is appropriate in an executive setting.
    - Consistency: Watery and bit runny.
    - Cleans glass well.
    - Thin clarity.
    - Great reflection.
    - Great shine.
    - This product brings the "wow" factor.
    - Showroom quality finish.
    - Not a good surface cleaner.
    - Product is becoming increasingly more difficult to find on store shelves at auto parts stores such as Pep Boys and warehouse stores such as Wal-Mart.

Would I recommend for auto glass:
    - Production detailing: Yes.
    - Personal detailing: Yes
    - Surface cleaning: No.
    - Decontamination: No.

Does this product live up to its advertising:
Yes. in regards to glass cleaning.
It does not create anything noticeable as a dust repellent nor gliding agent between the towel and the surface.

    Final thoughts:
    - Great product.
    - Much better than D120.
    - This product earns a permanent spot on the auto detail cart.

The Wal-Mart link was intended to cite a source for information on the product that I used in the review.
Specifically, when it comes to advertising, a manufacture will state advertising descriptions differently in certain market demographics, as well as store websites.
I also use Wal-Mart as a price reference when I can't find the receipt when the product has been purchased.

I will be glad to remove the link if requested by staff.
There is a distinct difference when posting a link in an effort to cite a source or give proper credit, vs spamming.

    Good question.
The first thing that comes to mind is that it is not necessarily a fair comparison between the two products.
The reason being is that D120 is diluted down, where Perfect Clarity is in RTU form.

    I typically dilute D120 down 10:1.
My first experience with it was 8:1.
This is a much stronger concentration ratio than what some detailers use, as far as I understand.

The thing that is great about D120 more than anything is the price, especially when purchased here at AutoGeek.
I have used D120 quite extensively over the last six months.
The more I use it, the less I like it.

When my supply is gone, I will be done with D120 forever.
I have a second gallon unopened that I have been trying to sell for dirt cheap to local auto detailers.
The problem is everyone has a gallon, and typically use extreme dilution ratios.
So, their gallon will probably last them 25 years, lol.

For most auto glass I clean, it is a worst case scenario.
I also primarily use rinseless wash and steam cleaning when I detail.
I do not pre-clean the glass before using a glass cleaner.
I use glass cleaner to clean and finish the glass.

Cleaning filthy dirty glass using a glass cleaner, without having washed and rinsed it first, will separate the quality glass cleaners from the less quality ones.
D120 is an average at best glass cleaner in worst case scenario situations.
D120 is more of a finisher, not a cleaner.
This is fine, if that is what suits your needs.
For my needs, there are too many much better glass cleaners available.

While the price point is higher for RTU glass cleaners, you can dilute these products down as well an get stunning results.
10:1 dilution ratios from a RTU product often produces just as good results, and in some cases, even better than full concentration.

D120 will always win on price point.
However, with the overly strong grape smell, the average performance in worst case scenarios, and the fact that it is a piss poor surface cleaner, just makes this a product I can live without.
Again, this is just my opinion.

@Vanev. Ok, thanks for the explanation.
So are you saying that when you wash a vehicle, you don't go over the exterior windows with the wash mitt? If that's the case, why not?
