Review: DP Paint Coating Headlight Application
I was most excited about DP's new paint coating if for no other reason to use it on my headlights and bumpers. Here in So Cal, we don't get much rain but our roads have sand, rocks, everything odd debris ever! Much like your roads I am sure. Regardless my front bumpers and headlights take a beating so perfect time to try out the coating I thought.
I just did the headlights today, as a test run with the new products. Needless to say I am impressed.
DP Prep Polish was easy to apply. A little went a real long way especially on my headlights which are not that big to begin with. 2 pea size drops easily spread and covered both headlights. I polished with m205 prior to bring out some clarity, and this easily removed those oils. After wiping away the headlights did indeed feel squeaky clean. I applied it by both hand and machine. I used Meg's 4" spots buff on my griots with a small backing plate. And by hand with a foam applicator. Both methods yielded positive results.
DP Paint Coating (headlight application)
Keep in mind this is designed for paint, but in my harassing of Nick he said it would be totally cool for headlights as well. My thoughts and feelings are only for applying to headlights thus far! I will say one spray did cover the headlights, in fact I'd say one spray might be too much, at least for my lights. After applying to the first one I tried hard on the other head light to kind of "half spray" the trigger, if you know what I mean. Again, this will vary by headlamp, but on mine one spray easily would've covered each. The product does apply grabby and I don't even know if that's the right word. More like, it doesn't applying slick, but it's no overall grabby either, but you can see and feel it going on. After around 15 min of application, you can feel some slickness starting as it cures. But application on the headlights was easy and straight forward. No complaints. I applied this with a yellow foam applicator similar to the pinnacle one found here on AG!
Here's the results. Sorry for the lighting but stuck in the garage.
DP Paint Coating Pros/Cons:
Price. I imagine if you're only doing headlights, the coating in 4oz form might last you forever. I am no pro, but if it lives up to claims I can't see how a business owner wouldn't incorporate this into their headlight resto package. Just my opinion. Price per app will be great!
Applies easily, felt grabby but you can see and feel yourself applying it. It's very hard to describe verbally, but when you try it you will understand.
Plays nice with headlights even though designed for paint
Durability, literally it's hour one. I will update this thread monthly. Everyone know I am active here so I will promise to do so!
Prep Polish Pros/Cons:
Decent entry level price. If I were to buy again it'd be the 32oz version.
Applies tremendously easily and a little goes a long way. Application by hand or machine on my lights was very easy. I am a huge fan of paint cleaners, I think I have found my new go to as it can be used for coatings, waxes and sealants. Anyone want a full bottle of Pinnacle Cleansing Lotion? It's for trade! Haha
No real cons I can think of. It did what it was supposed to!

Want to add, it's been a few hours now and went to check everything out. It's noticeably very slick. So for all you with application problems try one spray first let it sit and see if its slick, if not you can always go back. Decent way to tell if you fully covered your area.

Re: Review: DP Paint Coating Headlight Application
After about an hour after highway driving yesterday, it was time to clean them finally! Its only been 3-4 days but wow, cleaned easily. So far so good.
I will only be cleaning these headlights with UWW+ when needed, and will update as the days move on.
