Product Review: Griot's Garage Wash & Wax
Griot's Garage Wash and Wax
This review is based upon free 4 oz sample from Griot's Garage at 2012 Detail Fest so it involves just one use.
Product Description from Griot's Garage
In A Hurry? Our Wash & Wax Is The Perfect Way To Quickly Clean & Protect Your Vehicle
For years I've played with mixing our fabulous Car Wash with our wax. Now I've developed a product so you can enjoy it as well. It's for those times when you are pressed for time but want to put some protection on your paint. By no means, does this eliminate the need for a proper wax or sealant application (and why would you deny yourself from your much deserved car care therapy time?), but it's a great alternative when you are busy. While it's cleaning the dirty surface it leaves behind a layer of protection. Fast, easy and fun! What could be better?
Product Details
Manufacturer: Griot's Garage
Price: 16 Ounces $9.99; 1 Gallon $44.99
Diltuion: Griot's web site does not mention a dilution, Autogeek states 1 ounce per gallon
Additional products used:
Wash buckets (x2), grit guards
Wash mitt: Autogeek Chenille wash mitt
Sprayer: Adam's Fire Hose Nozzle
Vehicle:
1997 Dodge Dakota with a decent coating of pollen. LSP condition: weak
Observations
Scent: very light pleasant scent
Color: pinkish orange (salmon?)
Suds: Rich soap with nice suds
Lubricity: Very good
Cleaning: Very good
Beading during wash: None (note: paint was fairly weak LSP)
Water spotting: No tendency noted
Rinsing: Extremely easy
Protection (Wax): Left added gloss, but no comment on protection.
Local data:
Outside temp: 55 F
Time: 8:00am (while sun was behind the trees)
Dilution Used: 1 ounce per gallon
In my wash process, I pre-rinse, then wash upper, each side, rear, front so rinse just four to fives before sheeting water off so soap is on paint for longer than some do. I have soft water but does have minerals so can water spot if left to dry.
The sample
The truck with a little pollen
Plenty of trees around...
A side view
It's early and around 55 F
Wash solution mixed in the detail cart.
Added 3.5 gallon of warm water, mixed in soap, then remainder using fire hose nozzle
Gratuitous suds on paint shot
Suds spread evenly on paint.
End of wash suds (wash bucket is on right)
Decent suds left, lots in the rinse bucket
Paint clean and dry
Dried with waffle weave, tires still damp since I wanted to redo them. Meg's APC 4:1 did not get the tire brown off -- another review to come.
Conclusion
I liked this soap. It had rich suds that worked well with the wash mitt and rinsed extremely well. Lubricity was very good given the LSP condition especially after a few days with pollen.
Given that Griot's Garage's regular Car Wash is 1 ounce per 2 gallons I am wondering if 1 ounce per gallon is the right dilution since GG's web site does not state in the product description. It may work fine at weaker dilutions.
As for added protection, I will say it added gloss and left a nice easy to dry finish (used a waffle weave). I do not know how much protection it leaves but not expecting much since the pollen is tough on everything at this time.
Pros
- What a soap should do: clean and rinse well
- Added gloss
Cons:
- Cost if dilution is 1 ounce per gallon.
Unknowns
- Protection is an unknown.

Nice review Al! I love soaps that maintain good suds like that. I need to give my Griot's Wash and Wax sample a shot.
I can't believe you get that much pollen/dust after just an hour. I will stop complaining. I thought I had it bad when my car gets dusty like that after a day.

Nice review! I can relate to the pollen issues. It's pretty frustrating for a couple weeks.

Nice review Bunky! Thanks! With the pollen it almost seems not worth it to wash sometimes.

Hey Bunky, what's that third square/rectangular bucket you have on your "detail cart"?
