    Wheel sealant vs. paint sealant

Is there really any difference? I have AMMO Skin and like it on paint. Is there any reason it wouldn't work on wheels? I'm also looking at poor boys wheel sealant as an alternative.

I know most of us are fan boys of particular products, so I'd prefer to know why instead of shouting your favorite wheel sealant. Thanks in advance!

Re: Wheel sealant vs. paint sealant

You can apply any wax or sealant to wheels, However they were not designed or formulated to withstand the heat.

for example a product like McKee's 37 Wheel Glaze has temp resistant polymers and leaves a anti static finish to repel brake dust, etc.

Any sealant was tested/experimented on automotive paints not wheels.

If your looking for even more rim protection, I recommend the McKee's 37 Wheel Coating!

It will last up to 1 year on your wheels. and its almost as easy to apply as a wax/sealant, Wipe on buff off. And you will notice a tremendous difference in wheel maintenance. its a inexpensive option as well.

McKee's 37 Wheel Coating, wheel wax, wheel sealant, brake dust repellent

you will certainly get the best performance and most bang for your buck with the wheel coating. Hope this helped.

I use Collinite 845 on my wheels. It has a reputation for withstanding heat and lasts for months. Plus it's dirt cheap.

Griots Poly Wax cause I don't buy a dedicated wheel wax/sealant. Probably get Finish Kare 1000 later

Re: Wheel sealant vs. paint sealant

For me, what it's worth, the wheels don't really get all that hot.

The brakes get hot, the wheel not so much.

Now compare that to a black car in the Arizona sun, and not much difference in enviroment.

The thing with wheels is the hot iron particles (from the rotors) and the hot brake dust from the pads, combined with the closeness to the road, it's a very harsh enviroment.

These are super hot (1200 degrees + ) and test the strength of the protection.

For this reason, I go with wheel specific products:

    Wolfgang
    GTechniq
    Permanon
    Opti-Coat 2.0 (RIP)

Also barrels not same as face, so more options available.

IMHO they need more protection than the face.

Still haven't found the "sweet spot" product to protect these (cleaning with Brown Royal works well though).
