    porter cable xp

Purchased my PCxp two weeks ago, Love it my only concern is that during and after use it gets to hot to touch, at lower settings to apply wax it starts to smoke. My extension cords are 10 gauge. Even happens when I just use the weight of the PC without applying pressure. Has anyone had a similar experience? I love the results I get using my PC.

Smoke? Take it back. Smoke is never normal.

I agree, sounds like a faulty unit.

I was reading some post about the pad size I'm using the 6.5 ccs pads, with the xp , they are saying that the 6.5 pads are to much for the machine. Also stated using 5.5 pads are suitable for the xp. This may be the problem I will have to do some research today.

Welcome there..I'm a tad north of Montgomery.

I just got my PCXP about a week ago and mine does not do that. I'm using 5.5 pads right now.

I've used 6.5" pads on my PCXP and it has never started smoking... just gets bogged down a bit on anything below speed 5 or 6. If it is smoking it is defective and needs to be replaced. Mine has never been too hot to touch, even when paired with an improperly long/thin extension cord on a few mobile jobs.

Make sure you use the washer. The smaller pads matter, but without the washer on the backplate you will get smoke.

It's electrical smoke, unit gets hot, to hot to touch or handle. Called AG sending a replacement as soon as I get the return shipment email.
