Meguiar's D114 Rinse Free Express Wash

Meguiar's D114 Rinse Free Express Wash

I want to start out by thanking Richard (rwright) for sending me a sample of the new D114 wash. So I didn't purchase the product but I will give my unbiased opinion on it.
I also want to thank Corey (Cee Dog) for the use of his review template.

    Product Information

    Color: Royal Blue
Scent: Blue Punch (Like you got a parties when you were a kid.)
    Viscosity: Thin just like water
    Product Size: 1 Gallon
    Product Price: $39.99 retail

Product Directions: (These are revised based off of info provided by Michael Stoops in Richards previous review.)

Heavy duty wash - 1oz per 1 gallon of water
Regular wash - 1oz per 2 gallons of water.

    Initial thoughts and impressions:

My first thought was how good the D114 smelled. It reminds me of the blue punch that we were served as kids at parties. As I was measuring out the D114 I was surprised as to how thin it is. It actually seams thinner than ONR even. The viscosity is that of water.

    The Tools Used:

Wash Mitt: Cobra Bone Microfiber Wash Pad
2BM w/ a single grit guard in each
Drying towel: Mothers Ultra Soft Drying Towel

    The Test:

For this test I choose to use the regular wash dilution ratio of 1:256. I wanted to test the true ability of D114 at the same dilution ratio of my current rinse-less ONR.

    Vehicle Condition Pre-Wash:

The vehicle had been driven primarily through town and was simply covered in your standard road spray. It just shows up very well on a black vehicle.

    Wash Mitt Pre-Use and Solution:

I wash using an older Bone wash pad so it has some use on it. But it was clean and ready to go. I was surprised that there were suds from a Rinse Free Wash. But I guess that is really just the fact that I am used to ONR.

    All Clean:

Wash Mitt and Solution Post Wash:

    Questions:

    • If D114 doesn't use any polymers to encapsulate the dirt how does it safely wash without causing marring?
    • Will D114 be the go to rinse-less wash for LSP's like Permanon, and Wolfs Body Wrap that don't like the polymers in many other washes?
    • Will Meguiar's come out with dilution ratios for clay lube and waterless washing?

    Notes:

    • I didn't notice any staining of my Bone wash pad.
    • The dirt rinsed off of the Bone easily as well.
    • There was no streaking on glass.
    • There was no noticeable or any change to the LSP.

    Final Thoughts:

Overall I was impressed with D114 and the fact that is cleaned and dried off so well without any of the polymers that the competition is using. It is also nice to have an option that doesn’t alter the LSP you have in place. The purpose in using a certain LSP most of the time is because we like the way it looks and as wash that alters that defeats the purpose IMO. I would like to try the newest version of ONR to give this product a true comparison to what is currently available. One other test I am planning is to try this wash on a car that is using Permanon. I want to see if it has any ill effect on it like polymer based gloss enhancing soaps do.

Thanks for the review. Sounds like our thoughts are the same. Do you plan a strong wash? I'm curious what you think about the cleaning power at full strength.

Thanks for the review Troy. I like the fact that it doesn't stain wash media.

Nice review, I too like the fact that it doesn't stain the wash media. Looks like I'll have to try it out as soon as my ONR runs out.

I may try a full strength wash just as a test. But as a general rule I don't use a rinseless wash if it too dirty. I will usually do a standard wash or blast off the majority with a pressure washer. Truth be told. I prefer the 2BM over a rinseless.

Same here! I'm stuck on traditional wash method and rarely do rinseless.

I never do rinseless washes. Not because a car is too dirty, I just can't clean the FULL vehicle how I want to, not just the paint.
