Thanks for the review. The feature I really like is the adjustment in rpm's rather than numbers (1-6). Have to look for that stupid sticker that gives you the number in rpm's.

Can we please get an update on application? Here, this rotary is cheaper cheaper than the Makita. Thus, the interest.

Nice observation. I wonder if it can be set between 600 and 1000 for jewelling.

Between each speed setting is another "notch" of speed control. So there is a definite setting for 600, 800 & 1000 rpms. The trigger itself also has a long stroke that allows for very precise control of the speed while in use. It makes it very easy to set it at 1000 rpm (or higher) and then be able to feather the trigger as needed.

Thanks. I bet it highly beneficial for you pros to master such features.

Old thread but a good one. Since this thread, I have purchased one of these and have just been super happy with it. I have many hours on it and can say that it is a very capable and a well built machine.

Nice review Dave. I just recieved one of these bad boys as well.

I would like to know what backing plate and pad system you are using with this machine.

    Re: Dewalt DWP849X Initial Thoughts

Thanks everyone! I still have my Dewalt and use it several times a week. It is a work horse and performs any job I throw at it with flying colors. I have many bp's for it. Some 3in, 5in, and 7in. I've used just about every pad I own on it with great success. My favorite would have to be the Cyan HT pads and of course wool.
