Very well written and explained write-up Dave. Tests like this are more valuable with great documentation. It takes time to document any process including both capturing pictures that tell a story and then adding the words to help explain the story told by the pictures.

Wow...I wont have the guts to do that to a new car. This might be a silly question - what is the logic behind sanding the car?

"and the paint on the factory hood would be sanded flat to test the product’s UV ability"

How would sanding down the paint help prove the product's UV ability? Not trying to be an ass - innocent question...trying to understand..

My best guess is to see how the clearcoat withstands the elements on the unprotected side. This would test the paint's durability while giving you an honest indication of how it will react under the worst possible scenario of zero protection. The next most likely is to remove orange peel which a lot of American cars have plenty of these days.

Great test and documentation! That un-coated side looks so sad and lonely . I understand going to a brush-less auto wash, but WHY are you going to continue to wash with Dawn? Trying to give Opti-Coat a hard time to see if it lasts I assume.

Thanks for the write up, wish I was the one doing it.

Re: Optimum Opti-Coating - Durability Test Review!!!

Joe Fernandez of superior shine put opti coat on my 03 z06 back in June of last year. I have an 07 z06 now, but opti coat was great on the 03!

Re: Optimum Opti-Coating - Durability Test Review!!!

I am very interested in this test. I have some Opti-Coat and am wondering if I should use it on both vehicles. We have an 07 Charcoal Expedition and an 05 XLR in Xenon Blue. I enjoy keeping them looking. great. I currently use BFWD over the Menzerna Twins and am happy with the look, I dont know if O-C can look as good as BFWD. I know it will act moe like an invisible bra than an ISP.
