DP Universal Detailing Clay Review
This is a review of the DP Clay bar that I got from AG as a winner of the “What DP Products…….” thread. The DP Clay was one that I always wanted to try but never pulled the trigger. I always used OTC clays, except on my wife’s Nissan, I’ve always used Pinnacle Poly Clay. I’ve clayed her car each six months with the mild Pinnacle Poly. For this review I used her car.
SIZE/BANG FOR BUCK:
DP Clay===========200grams=======7oz.===============2 4.99
Mothers kit/bar===================2.82oz=============19.99
Megs kit/bar======================2.5oz==============19.99
Pinnacle Poly Clay==================4oz===============19.99
DP Rinseless as clay lube==(1-1 1/2oz to 32oz bottle or ¾ oz per 16oz)====32oz=15.99==less 50 cents for 16oz of clay lube.
DP Clay wins this hands down.
PACKAGING:
DP Clay comes in a clear plastic box that snaps locked. This is a huge plus IMO. You will notice in the pics that I’ve had to buy travel soap dishes to store my other clay. The clay comes wrapped in cellophane inside. When the cellophane is removed is useless and must be discarded. The reason that I mention that is the clay will stick to the plastic box. To store the clay after opening I wrapped it in wax paper.
INSTRUCTIONS:
The instructions were clear but very basic. I thought that it might be nice for those with no claying experience to have a URL that would take them to AG’s tutorial on claying.
PERFORMANCE:
As always every product in the DP line seems to be a hidden gem. This clay fit this. I put it to a tough test with my wife’s car since I stay on top of the details. Each six months I got very little if no contaminates from the Poly Clay. I really expected to get nothing with the DP Clay. I did. Each new section I would have to fold the contaminated side into itself and re-shape for the next section.
Another thing that I experienced with the DPClay is that it had enough stick to it to hold your hand without feeling like it would slip out. It wasn’t sticky to the point that it left residue or sluffed pieces. The confidence that it wasn’t going to fall allowed the quickest clay job that I’ve ever done.
OVERALL:
DP is a very good clay that is a great value. The clay kits mentioned at the first of this review said you should get 3-4 cars from the clay bar. If each 1/3 bar of DP Clay got 3-4 cars that is 9-12 cars total. No contest. I wish that I would have worked through all this a long time ago rather than buying the OTC stuff because there really is no comparison. I’ll buy this again and stick with it. My new go-to clay.
