2021 Coating Test
For 2020 I had the following test on my daily driver. I will be posting up the final results soon. I have been occupied with other projects lately.
https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/product-reviews/125406-2020-ceramic-coating-1-year-test.html
For 2021 I will be doing something similar. With the whole graphene buzzword, I am including a mix of ceramic and graphene coatings.
I am going to apply the number of recommended layers for each coating. Essentially if a coating calls for one layer then it will only get one layer. If it calls for two then I will do two with the recommended time between layers.
I am also not going to be applying any toppers to this area once again.
I paid for all of these coatings other than the sample of IGL Quartz+ I received for the 2020 test. Smart shopping where it counts and the total amount for these coatings came out to be $1,558.35.
The candidates are the following:
Ceramic Coatings:P&S Inspiration (50ml)
P&S Sol (100ml)
Blackfire Pro Black Edition (50ml)
Cquartz SiC (50ml)
3D Ceramic (30ml)
Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light (30ml)
Gtechniq Exo V4 (30ml)
Ethos Ceramic Matrix (50ml)
Poorboys Ceramic (30ml)
IGL Quartz+ (60ml kit) -> included as I did not get the proper application the first time when it came to layering the coatings. Will compare it to the Quartz+ Graphene version.
Graphene Ceramic Coatings:IGL Kenzo Graphene Reinforced (40ml kit) Authorized Installer Coating
IGL Quartz+ Graphene Reinforced (60ml kit) Authorized Installer Coating
SPS Graphene (50ml) -> Will be applying the newest formula. Authorized Installer Coating
Glassparency Graphene (50ml)
Adams Graphene Ceramic (60ml)
Jade Grpahene Pro (50ml)
Xtreme Solution Graphene Ceramic (50ml)
Ethos Graphene Matrix (30ml)
Based on the price I paid the lowest cost per ml goes to P&S Sol at $1.04/ml. The highest goes to IGL Kenzo at $4.17/ml based on 40ml (20ml base, 20ml top). IGL Kenzo is an authorized installer coating so keep that in mind.
When it comes to strictly ceramic cost per ml, P&S Sol is the lowest and the highest is the CSL/Exo at $2.42/ml (based on the price I paid at obsessed garage for the 60ml kit).
When it comes to the graphene coatings, IGL Kenzo is the highest and the lowest is Adams at $1.07/ml. If we are speaking about consumer graphene coatings the highest cost per ml goes to Ethos at $2.83/ml.
I will post up the application of the coatings when I get to that point.

Re: 2021 Coating Test
As someone who is just starting to look into coatings, I'm very interested to see how this plays out. Thanks for doing this

Awesome. Looking forward to it.
Can I ask why 303 Graphene is not part of the study?

Wow, that's a lot of coatings to keep track of!
Really appreciate these tests. They are great reference for future purchases.

I've done testing like this in the past, it's a lot of work but also very interesting.
I would offer a recommendation and perhaps you're already planning to do this,
If at all possible, test all the like or similar products on a hood and/or trunk lid. These are horizontal surfaces where all coatings will get the same exposure to all things. It will also make it more fair to visually inspect and compare.
I've seen other people do testing like this where some products are tested on a hood and other products are tested on a vertical panel and this simply isn't a good way to do comparative testing.
One of the primary goals when doing this type of testing is to have controls in place and as much as possible reduce as many variable as possible.
For what it's worth...
Good luck!
