I used the Mother's version for a while and did not find the bristles to be very soft. I'm currently using a generic one found at a big box store and the bristles are really soft, yet it still works great on outward facing wheel surfaces.
As for the Speedmaster, I don't know how I'd live without that one. It's amazing for getting into the barrels of the wheels. The occasional splatter doesn't bother me at all.
The Carand is stiff. Not meant for wheels. I still use the Mothers wheel brush for the wheels. For the price and quality it can't be beat. If you looking for a different wheel brush, the boars hair looks nice.
