DP Coating Prep Polish and DP Glass Coating Review

I finally had the chance to try out these two new product offerings by DP on two of my vehicles. The first is my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. Since owning the truck, I have always used some type of glass coating on it. I first started with RainX, then moved over to Gtechniq G1, and finally Pinnacle Glass Coat.

Overall I can honestly say that I was very disappointed with Gtechniq G1. I found the application to be somewhat difficult and the durabilty just didn't seem to last as long as I would have thought. The truck isn't really driven that much in the rain and is not really even a daily driver. For me, Pinnacle Glass Coat blew Gtechniq out of the water as far as pricing, easy of use, and durability.

All of the windows on the truck (side and windshield) had been previously treated with Pinnacle Glass Coat. I decided to leave the Pinnacle on the side windows to see how it compares to the new DP Glass Coating.

    Product
    DP Coating Prep Polish

Detailer’s Coating Prep Polish is a non-abrasive chemical polish that deep cleans automotive paint, ridding it of below-surface contaminants that will prevent a coating, paint sealant or wax from properly bonding. Formulated without any silicones, waxes, sealants, polymers or fillers, Detailer’s Coating Prep Polish leaves nothing on the surface, making it the ideal polish to use before applying any product that requires a 100% oil and wax free surface.

    Product
    DP Glass Coating

Detailer’s Glass Coating is a super-hydrophobic nano-glass ceramic coating that creates an extremely hard, crystal-clear barrier of protection on exterior glass surfaces. Treated glass surfaces will be impenetrable to environmental contaminants while exhibiting super hydrophobic properties; water will bead up and roll off while snow and ice will be effortless to remove. A single application lasts up to one year!

    Process

    1. I applied the DP Coating Prep Polish via PC with a 4 inch LC white pad. Removal was a breeze. The windshield had a very slick feel to it.

    2. DP Glass Coating was applied via a foam app. I spritzed and primed the foam app with one spray and used a total of about 5 sprays to cover the entire windshield.

    3. I buffed with a short napp micro fiber towel.

    Car #2

I also wanted to try the DP Glass Coating on my work car which sees alot more driving time and exposure to rain and the elements etc. The car is a 2009 Dodge Charger and I have always maintained the glass with Duragloss Rain Repel. DG is a simple and easy glass repellent and I would apply it after washes.

    Process

    1. Since the glass on this car was not in that great of shape I decided to polish it with DP Glass Restorer via my Griots 3 inch polisher and a white pad. My 4 inch LC backing plate on my PC actually started falling apart last time I used it with small pieces of rubber shooting out while using it. I very disappointed in the LC backing plate falling apart considering its not even used that much. It's almost like the rubber disintegrated due to age. Thankfully I had my Griots 3 inch as a backup.

    2. I applied the DP Glass Coating via a foam app and buffed with a micro fiber towel.

    Thoughts

    1. Both the DP Glass Coating and the DP Coating Prep Polish were super easy to use as far as application and removal. From a price standpoint and the amount of product used I feel that both product are extremely economical. I am curious to see how the DP Glass Coating holds up compared to some of the Glass Coating/Rain Repellants on the market.

    2. I noticed some minor streaking when using the DP Glass Coating after using the DP Glass Restorer. My guess is that I didn't use the DP Coating Prep Polish immediately afterwards which may have caused this issue.

I will try and update on the durability on the DP Glass Coating.

Sorry no pics. We all know what clean glass looks like

Just a quick update. We finally got some heavy rain and I was able to show the Glass Coating in action. Pretty nice beads and no need for wipers. The water was flowing off.

Now that it has been a little over three months, how is this "1 year" coating holding up?

We got a significant amount of rain this week. The coating is still holding up excellent on my work car. Beading and sheeting is still fantastic.

Hey guys, quick question.. I applied the glass coating after the glass restore on my dads truck. He says it works great in the rain during the day, however at night time in rain there is severe glare! Anyone had this happen before? Don't know if I used to much product or what??

Sounds like a couple things may have happened:

    1. The DP Polish wasn't completely removed.
    2. The glass coating was applied way too thick and the excess residue wasn't removed.

You can try cleaning the glass, and if that doesn't fix it, I would simply polish and re-apply the coating.
