PBL Surface Coating over Dr. Beasley's Z1

PBL Surface Coating over Dr. Beasley's Z1

    Two and done

I usually type or say, one and done when referring to an AIO - that is, you do ONE THING to the paint and you're done. Thus, one and done. But this write-up is about two and done, which is still faster and easier than using a normal compound or polish due to a unique feature about the Z1 and also the PBL Surface Coating. Let me explain what I mean.

One of the cool things about the new Dr. Beasley's Z1 Ceramic AIO - is that you can top it with any brand of coating without chemically stripping the paint.

This means you can use the Z1 like a compound or a polish to do the paint correction and then go straight to your favorite ceramic coating or any type of coating. At this time - my favorite paint coating is a coating that is fast and easy to use, lasts up to a year and most important - leaves the paint feeling slick and slippery, this is the PBL All Surface Coating. It can be used on just about any surface and that works for me because while I'm applying it to the paint I can also hit the windshield, (glass), and then the headlights and tail lights, (plastic), and basically anything else on the outside of the car.

Below is my brother-in-law's 2018 Chevy Silverado High Country and the paint is actually in really good condition. By "good condition" I mean there's hardly any swirls, scratches, water spots or oxidation in or on the paint. I'm not sure how PJ keeps it in such good shape because he's not really into car detailing. He's more of a driver. Regardless, he understands the cool features of ceramic coatings because they last longer and make washing and drying faster and easier.

    Boat Puller
PJ pulls his boats behind this truck including the Bass Pro Shops Nitro19 you see in the background. PJ asked me if I could put a ceramic coating on his truck while his boat was here for a video we shot. Because the paint was in great condition I said, "sure" and after a waterless wash, a thorough claying of the paint and glass, I machine polished all the paint and all the glass using the Dr. Beasley's Z1 and then applied the Pinnacle Black Label Surface Coating.

Now after a day on the lake, he can pull the truck and the boat through a nearby coin-op car wash and power blast the truck and the boat. Because they are boat coated, they'll spray-off clean and then he can air-dry them as he blasts down the road to put the boat away.

Besides the rinseless wash and detailing clay, here's what I used...

The FLEX Supa BEAST plus the new RUPES CP Yellow Foam Polishing Pads

Here's the results and I did this in under 8 hours for the waterless wash, clay and machine polishing steps.

    My comments?

This was about as easy as it gets to do the paint correction step plus install a quality paint coating. I could have stopped after the Z1 but I wanted to amp-up the protection and leave the paint feeling silky smooth. And using a technique I came up with that I use for the PBL Surface Coating, which is like most car detailing techniques I come up with - it's fast and easy.

The only thing I would point out is when using the Z1, at least when using it a high humidity, air-conditioned shop - wipe off the excess product immediately after buffing a section as the excess will buff off easiest if you wipe sooner than later.

The FLEX Supa BEAST It has a part number but I don't memorize it.

RUPES DA Yellow Fine Foam Pad - 7 Inch

You NEED lots of towels for this type of work, pick up a dozen or two of these towels or a similar towel, (they come in different colors), and then TAKE CARE OF YOUR TOWELS. I have lots of articles on microfiber towels because - it's that important.

I agree. Hate to sound like a broken record but for everyone that will read this into the future - if you want to get a car buffed out in the shortest amount of time while putting out professional qualit results - you need a gear-driven orbital. And after getting one - invest the time behind to go get GOOD.

    Then you can go fast.

I'm not sure if I shared this in the write-up but one of the things I like about the PBL Surface Coating is it works well to remove smudges and light imperfections after the Z1 - in my opinion it was a really nice combo.

I had dinner with Jim aka Dr. Beasley, (and Chris Metcalf from FLEX), last night after work and shared this detail job with him. I also let him know what a nice combo these two products are together. Off-hand I'm not sure if Jim has a product like the PBL Surface Coating but if he doesn't - it would make a nice addition to his line. A easy to use spray on coating that can be used stand-alone or as a topper for Z1

I also shared with him, as much as I know he wants to go with different terminology, the words that are going to stick for this new product and other products that will come out that are going to be like it is,

    Ceramic AIO

It's already established in my mind and writing experience. I like the terms Surface Primers and they will continue on but people and by the word "people" I mean mostly guys and mostly "detail guys", these people are collectively LaZY (including me), and it's just too easy to see, say and type,

    Ceramic AIO

And I believe as of this post - I am vindicated in my predication over 2 years ago.

    Prediction - More one-step Cleaner/Coatings or Primers
