With the 8mm throw the Flex 3401 lacks (compared to long throws) in OPMS, This is where the free spinning long throws excel at is OPMS. Being that the 3401 is gear driven it has to travel 8mm and it can only do that so fast. the larger the orbit the less OPMS for a gear driven machine.
Someone posted the specs on Facebook that the Rupes forced rotation does have more OPMS than the 3401. And that makes sense due to the 5mm throw. the 5mm has to travel less distance than 8mm, Accomplishing more OPMS.
Maybe Rupes found a happy medium between Forced Roation and Long-Throw?
Let's just say I for one am excited to try it.
I'm right there with ya!

Sneak Peek! - New Polisher!

Just a couple hours ago, while using the 9237, I was imagining a forced rotation orbital with even a 3mm offset, and higher rotations.
I really enjoy using the rotary, and I see myself using it more and more. The current plan was to get another 3401, but if either of the new Makita, or Rupes tools give faster rotation, I may go that route.
The new Makita definitely has higher OPM than the Flex 3401. I really like my 3401, but always felt it didn't spin quite fast enough on speed 6(4800 OPM). The question is, shorter throw but more OPM correction power vs. longer throw and less OPM??? Tie? I have no idea.
FWIW, I *think* the Makita spins counterclockwise like the 3401. However, the shorter throw might make it a bit less harsh/more smooth.

this is what Jason Rose told me about Rupes Mille
5.2mm actually. 7,490 opm. It's 14 orbits per rotation at 535 rpm.
Makita has been good to respond to me..so i'll ask on the rotation ...but from video in slowmo of it in action it looks like it spins clockwise in forced...but in videocwhen in free spin mode...looked like counter clockwise....hmmm

Wow! That's a lot of OPM from the Mille! What is the top Makita OPM in forced mode?

***Update***
Finished.
Cars looks great. Had a chance to test out Dr. Beasley's Paint Coating on the matte surfaces, looks great.
Full write-up and I'll share the tool and everything I used tomorrow.

Things are fantastic in detail land!
Both the Mille, and proposed Makita seem to be the missing link in my arsenal.

Looks like the Rupes 21, Mille and mini would be a KILLER combo!
