Review: Jay Leno's Garage Quick Detailer by Mike Phillips
Review: Jay Leno's Garage Quick Detailer by Mike Phillips
Out of all the products in the car detailing world, the quick detailer or spray detailer is probably the most abundant. Everyone has a spray detailer and this is a good thing because it's an very handy product to not only have in your garage but to keep in your car for regular maintenance and emergencies. (Yes emergencies)
Since Autogeek is now the exclusive distributor of the Jay Leno Garage line of car detailing products I get to use and test each product and then share my thoughts with the online world of car detailing enthusiasts as well as professional detailers. I have to admit it's a fun job. But I don't do mock-up very well. I understand the need for speed but even so... I don't do mock-up very well. What I do well is the real deal, that is bring in a real car that needs real help and then use the product on the car, (not just a section on the hood), take some pictures, (usually with some help as using a tripod and the camera timer is pain in the rear and a huge waste of time if you can simply find a warm body with a hand to hold the camera and a finger to push a button).
So in the below pictures you're going to see me use the Jay Leno Garage Quick Detailer on a car I washed and waxed exactly one week after I wiped off the wax and returned the car to the owner. The wax review is coming but the car wash review can be be read here,
Jay Leno’s Garage Vehicle Wash - Review and How-to by Mike Phillips
As I shared in the above review, the Camaro I used to test a number of Jay Leno Garage products is a DAILY DRIVER. It's also NEVER parked in a garage. As such it is exposed to the world 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Now how dirty can a car get in 7 days? Great question. The answer is it depends upon,
What's in the air where the car is driven or parked
Sad to say the owner of this car tends to park it under a tree when not at work, (maybe even parks it under a tree when at work - I never asked?) and for this reason, after one week this car came back dirty. Dirty enough that normally I would wash this car just like I did the week before.
That said, recently my good friend Michael Guzman aka Guz on this forum also wrote a review, (great job Michael). Here's the link to his review. (I gave it a blue clickable link for a title to make it easy to share)

So while Michael tested the Jay Leno Garage Quick Detailer out on what looks like a pretty clean car I pushed this product to its limit! And used it on a car that has not been washed for ONE WEEK.
Now recently, Yancy and I shot a video for the launch of the Jay Leno Garage line of car detailing products, here's the video, and pay attention to what I say about the Quick Detailer from the 50 second to 60 second time stamp.
In case you don't see it, here's what I said about the quick detailer,
A spray detailer to use in-between a normal car wash and car wax to keep your car spotless
So true to what I said, below is the real deal, not a mock-up. I'm using this product in-between a normal car wash and wax which I performed on Monday, March 27th and when I used the quick detailer it was on Monday, April 3rd. It doesn't get any more real than this...
First here's the car after driving her into Autogeek's Show Car Garage. The paint looks good from this angle doesn't it?
So let me show you what it really looks like, fairly dirt with tree sap and pollen all over the horizontal surfaces.
How to use a spray detailer on a dirty car
The difference between using a spray detailer on lightly dirty car and a heavily soiled car comes down to three things,
1: Spray down a wet or heavy saturation of product. Don't over do it but don't skimp. You want the liquid in the product soaking into, softening and dissolving the dirt and other foreign subastances to make the easier, faster and most important - safer to wipe off the car.
2: Use lots of towels. Most people only use a towel or two when using a spray detailer. If there's visible dirt on the car then have a healthy supply of towels on hand. The reason why is because as you remove dirt off one panel you don't want to rub it over another panel so you need more towels and you need to pay attention and switch to a clean, dry towel as all the sides of the current towel are used up and become contaminated.
3: Time. Because the dirtiest panels on a car are usually the horizontal panels on the car and because the spray you lay down will tend to DWELL on dirty horizontal panels, allow some TIME to go by for the liquid in the product and the cleaners in the product to do their job.
Step-by-Step Directions
Step 1: Spray an ample amount of Jay Leno's Garage Quick Detailer to a section of a panel.
Step 2: After waiting for a few seconds for the product to penetrate, loosen and dissolve the film of dirt n the car, spread the product out using one side of a clean, folded microfiber towel.
Step 3: After spreading the product over the surface, flip to a clean side and finish wiping the residue off to a high gloss shine.
Repeat the above process to the rest of the car.
Done correctly, a high quality spray detailer like the Jay Leno's Garage Quick Detailer can be used to maintain a high gloss finish in-between a normal car wash and wax job.
Back to life of a daily driver but.... looking like she was just detailed!
My comments...
Jay has a nice spray detailer in his line. It works great, smells great and does exactly what Jay says it will do, it will clean and shine.
"I would trust and use this on any car"
You can quote me on the above.Get yourself a bottle and keep it in the garage or store some in your car for emergencies or to do a quick cleaning anytime you have a spare 5-10 minutes.

Great article as always Mike!
That's a pretty dirty car but the Jay Leno's QD cleaned it up with ease.

Yeperdoo...
Kind of explained everything in the write-up. Perhaps in the future Jay will introduce a waterless wash. Until then I can't use it, test it out nor write about it.
Also, if you dig around, I probably have a few how-to articles on how to use,
Waterless washes
Rinseless washes
Traditional washes
Spray detailers
The tricky part is to write in a way that anyone reading it can take the information you've shared and successfully duplicate it to their car in their garage. Writing is a skill. Taking pictures that tell a story and somehow magically making them appear in a linear manner using BB Code on a forum is also a skill.

Great write up Mike. You were not kidding when you mentioned you pushed the quick detailer to the limit. I ended up using it on the same car the following day to remove the light dust that accumulated the day after so it does work well. I did notice that there was not a lot of dust accumulation. Almost as if the QD has some sort of anti-static properties to it.

Nice review. You really did put that detailer to the test on that car!
