It's a matter of choice--everyone has their own favorite. Get any quality 5" backing plate and use 5" or 5.5" flat pads. But, if you're going to use LC pads get an LC backing plate, Buff & Shine pads use a B&S backing plate, Megs pads--Megs backing plate etc, etc. The new Megs THIN 5" pads might be worth looking at--less mass to spin, only 3 colors (cut, polish, finish) and they are getting good reviews.

Re: HF da guys
ski2 pretty much nailed it. IME the LC 5" DA backing plate (also have the B&S and megs as well) has served me well and is pretty compatible with most pads out there. the megs 5" DA foam discs are very thin and since there is less foam that means less twisting which will help utilize the DA even more. personally, i'm not a fan of the LC beveled 5.5" foam pads. I wish they would make them just like the thin hydro-tech pads. another great choice for 5.5" foam pads are the B&S which have been good to me for many years...

Re: HF da guys
I went the Lake Country 5" route with their 5.5" flat pads and have been very happy.

It depends on the car. I have the Blackfire duo, Meg's UP/UC combo, and the Griots AIO with sealant. All of them have worked very well for me, though I'm looking to expand my inventory to cover more paint conditions.
