Porter Cable 7424XP (not what you think)

So i have used the search button, and google but to no avail. I just bought a used PC off Ebay, the seller said the spindle where the backing plate screws into is "loose" i received it and the spindle spins freely, i read about the PC being able to move on its own axis, but was wondering if i need to replace the whole spindle bearing assembly, or if its ok? I don't know if the spindle is supposed to be tight up against the bearing or not.

    Thanks!

The spindle is supposed to spin freely, that's actually a benefit of using a DA...

    These are great videos...

Specifically watch the second one. Just after Mike puts the pad on the backing plate it spins the pad... you can see how freely it will spin.

The spindle spins freely. That's why it comes with a wrench so you can hold the spindle in one position while you screw on/off the backing plate.

The spindle does wobble back and forth a little bit, I assume that is the sign of a shot bearing?

not very pleased right now, brought it into the local porter cable service center here in town and because it was stamped in 2009, its out of warranty, so i stopped in today and they said they are still waiting on parts. He told me $50 for the part, and $40 for labor, total of $90, with what i have into right now i could have bought a new one. Lesson learned i guess.

For about $60 you can get a brand new Harbor Freight DA ($50 for the polisher and $10 for a 2 year replacement warranty) Has more power than the PC and it's not a bad polisher at all (but the backing plate sucks)--a few using them for day in day out production detailing with no problems.
