When you received the DA was there a set of brushes in the box. You could try replacing the brushes.

Re: Porter cable DA polisher not running :(
There are a couple things that may cause the DA to be non-operative. .
1. Check the outlet. Is it on a GFI and is it tripped? I mention this as I have found this in my home on more than one occasion. My first inclination is to think the PC is broken, LOL, It is 18 years old.
2. Check the power cord. You can do this with a multimeter. If it reads open you may have a plug or cord issue.
3. Check the brushes as Ed as mentioned.
4. Be sure you have the spacer washer between the tool and the backing plate.
Finally, many hardware stores around here are certified Porter-Cable repair centers. They can diagnose and give you a repair estimate. I drop my PC off for maintenance every year or two during the winter slow season. My PC is now 18 years old and still runs strong. Not sure what PC repair facilities are available where you live.

I'm surprised at everyone:
It's brand new, it shouldn't need brushes. Is there a fiber washer between the backing plate and the machine (on the threads)? This is very important.

Re: Porter cable DA polisher not running :(
There are so many things it could be and that I have experience with a PC, but they are mostly related to heavy use.
A problem I had once, was an internal wire leading to the internal switch (not external switch) was crimped from being put together wrong at the factory. It was clamped between two plastic parts inside and was almost cut in half. It started causing me intermittent problems so I repaired it myself.
The internal switch will also build up a heavy layer of carbon and also cause the machine to not turn on, but that would be mostly due to a ton of use.
I posted a thread on repairing the switch. It might not help you much but it might give you an idea of what it looks like in there.

Re: Porter cable DA polisher not running :(
I'd send it back if it's possaible.
I didn't get extra brushes when I received my PC but yet to have any problems since I bought it over a year ago and I used it so many times, I now use my GG DA which I love.
