Yes, I'd say for sure grab it!

I'm no authority on the history of the Porter Cable Machines, but if I remember correctly, a well respected member here, BobbyG has had both, and he got countless years of good use from his 7424.

That in some ways, the original was built better, solid Shaft versus hollow on the new XP, and I believe also, that the original was made in USA, the latest model comes from Mexico.

Got it, works great. Need a backing plate, but I figured I'd need a velcro one anyone for most foam pads.
