It's a small plastic spacer that came with the 7424. It's even referenced in the instructions. None of you guys use it? I guess it depends on your backing pad.
Sneek, what does the extension cord have to do with it? The extension cord didn't get hot. The motor did, and now I realize it was because the pad couldn't rotate freely and was overloading the motor. I did the roof of my brother's Cobra and the motor got warm, but not nearly as hot as it was when it was binding.

You guys don't read your manuals, do you? LOL
I guess it depends on which backing disc you use. Some might have enough offset built in. The particular model I had sitting around sat flush right up againt the counterweight. If any of you guys are having trouble keeping your PC from bogging, and having overheating issues, you might want to check and make sure the pad clears the counterweight and spins freely!

In time out
Mine doesn't get so hot to where it's to the point where I want to DROP IT LIKE IT'S HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTT...

It's not actually attached. It's just a plastic washer about 1/4" thick that slides over the threaded rod in the backing plate. It was buried in the bag with the wrench and manual.

You have no idea the grief that little thing has caused me! Or rather, the absence of that little thing, actually. I searched high and low for a local Lowe's that might have a PC in stock, and then finally called tools-plus and had them submit a UPS call tag to return it.
I'm so glad I figured it out before I shipped it to them just to have them tell me there is nothing wrong with it!
