Mine is the same way. I often feel that 5 isn't quite enough, but 6 is too much. 5.5 would be nice.

Ok! Good to know I'm not the only one that has this issue. I have the 3.5 and 4.5, etc. just NO 5.5. I also feel that 6 on mine is like hyper speed, and 5 seems like it could use a little more oomph.

LOL...I think this is like saying just drive your car 155mph all the time, otherwise you're not using your car to your full potential either. There are times when you might want to slow it down just a tad.....

if in a race, you would want to use the car to its full potential. when polishing paint, you want to use the polisher to its full potential.

when correcting, speed 6 is crucial! yes speeds lower may be good when doing for fine polishing, but if you never use speed 6, you are not using the machine to its max when trying to reach correction quickly and effectively.

speed 6 is also great for applying an AIO like DG501.

    dont believe me? try it!!

I used mine on 6 for the first time today to get out some 2000 grit sand marks and it worked like a champ. Orange flat pad and 105 and it's like it never happened.

I just received my brand spanking new PC 7424XP and I can 100% say without a doubt that it indeed does not have a 5.5 setting. It is not missing...it is not worn out...the switch is just fine. It never had it to begin with. ;-)

Wouldn't it be nice if someone from Porter Cable read threads like this and then were pro-active in updating and improving their 7424XP to make it better for the way detailers use it?

PC is asleep at the wheel and Meguiar's, Griot's and other companies are going to bite by bite, take away their market share, or at least a portion of what they have left.
