    Backing Plate Question

Have the G110v2 DA polisher and am interested in a smaller backing plate for spot correction. Ordered the Megs 5 inch but would like something smaller. Can anyone advise on a 3 or 3.5 that would fit the G110v2? Megs has one but not rated very good. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Backing Plate Question

replied to your other thread as well ...

    Hi physerv24

I'm still a "newbie" so hopefully a pro will recommend some as well.

I think most manufacturer's recommend their pads to be used with their own backing plates. (But most detailers don't really follow this rule, just match the size of the backing plate to the size of the pad safely)

Also, most DA backing plates fit most DA Polishers
(besides the Flex which has it's own range of backing plates)

Found these Autogeek links that could help as well ...

The 3 Inch DA Backing Plate is designed to offer perfect balance and support for 3 inch foam pads.
The actual diameter is 2 7/8 inches, so the plate is recessed back from the edge of the pad slightly for safety.
Use this backing plate with your Griot's Garage Professional Random Orbital 3 Inch Polisher.

A smaller version of our 5 and 6 inch plates, this 3.5 inch backing plate is designed for our Spot Buffs 4 inch pads.
The 3.5 inch plate has a 5/16” threaded post that screws directly into the Porter Cable 7424.
Use any of the Spot Buffs pads, Lake Country 4 inch pads, or Cyclo 4 inch pads to correct small areas of paint or to polish particular spots.

Use a Meguiars DA Microfiber Cutting/Finishing Disc with a Meguiars Unigrit 3 Inch Professional Backing Plate and Adaptor Kit on a dual action polisher, like the Meguiars G110 DA Polisher.

    Re: Backing Plate Question

As 'Jughead' stated, most DA backing plates are interchangeable.

The 'normal' thread size is 5/16-24 (yes, fine thread).

BUT...there are differences concerning the length of the hooks on the plate.

    Bill

This may be a no-no, so Mods...delete of necessary. Over on MOL Michael Stoops wrote pretty good article concerning the hook/loop difference from various plate manufactures.
