Griot's Garage DA Polisher as sander

I have the 6" DA Polisher and my dad was wondering if he could borrow it to sand our flooring. Is it possible to do as such? If yes, is there a compatible backing plate + sander available to bought out there?

I just called Griots and asked them this question. They do not recommend using for sanding. They haven't heard of many people trying it for that. The customer service rep said that she had heard that it doesn't get up to the appropriate speed for sanding.

    Hope this helps.

I used a PC, (first generation), to sand down an old desk and re-stain it.

I've used it to wet sand paint but actually I think the PCXP worked a little better for that application. The GG6 has a lot more torque and even on speed 1 it was getting more rotation than I wanted for wet-sanding.

I can tell you both the gg and pc do a great job at dry sanding, but without a dust extraction system attached you will have to keep blowing out the air vents as they will start to show signs of dust accumulation, personally on the gg I'd use a foam interface and the pc I didn't feel it was as needed between the backing plate and sanding disc.

I just bought an oak desk off cl and want to refinish it.

I see that Megs makes sanding discs but only in 3 inch sizes? Think 800 grit is good enough?

You can get all the sanding discs just about any grit at Lowes in 5" size.

That's where I got mine, I think I started at like 220 or 400, it was pretty course when I sanded this desk down...
