    Porter Cable Polisher

I'm new to the forum and not a detailer but have been a car dude for over 30 years. I still own my 1st car a 1982 Cutlass Supreme that I drive almost everyday. While I'm out I get my compliments on how nice my car looks. Wish me luck I'm going to attempt to take out some of the swirl marks in my paint. These came from me driving in the winter months and the salt thrown in from the car in front of me. I always wipe it down after driving but notice these marks and want to take see if I can accomplish this on my own.
Now I understand from reading that the Porter Cable is fairly easy product to use. I have some materials that I will using,
    1. Surf City Clay
    2. Meg U/C
    3. Meg Gold Class wax.

Wiping it down everytime after driving is probably doing more damage then the cars in front of you.

I notice that I always use QD so I'm able to lift as much of the salt off the paint without causing too much damage.

If you use a clean, fresh towel with any instant detailer, using a good technique will not, or should not harm the paintwork at least 99.9 percent of the time if you do it right.

Ive gotta think that washing properly once a week (even if its a waterless or ONR or similiar) will be less likely to cause harm to paint as opposed to wiping it down every time you drive the vehicle.

But I can also understand under the right circumstances a QD, used correctly, will not do any harm to the paint.

Has the salt film dried before wiping down?

If you are just using a QD-I hope you are soaking the panel and letting it sit before wiping.

Not trying to be rude but salt is nasty stuff-I have been dealing with it all winter and we are about to get hit tonight with some more! Urrrghhhh!

Yeah I would def soak the parts where there dried salt on the car before you do any wiping. Something you should look into is waterless wash or ONR.

Oh yes I soak the part that I'm attacking and use one initial one and then one to dry and buff clean not rubbing hard at all, kinda like scooping up the wetness and I usually attack it almost as soon as I put the car in the garage.

Good deal, like slickooz said I would look into some ONR (Optimum No Rinse) its amazing stuff. I was a skeptic for a while but tried it and loved it.

It's great for the winter months-you dont need a hose. If you want I can send you a few ounces to sample to help decode of you want to buy any.
