What am I doing to cause this?

    Greetings,

So I am using a porter cable 7242 with 4" lc pads with the 2-3/4 backing plate adapter part # LC-76-093. This is the 3rd time this backing plate keeps on breaking apart. Is there any warranty or is the product just junk? I just purchased 1 and have used it for about probably 5 hours of use and the velcro rubber piece is already breaking off from the actual plate.

If any of you guys have a better product to suggest please do so thank you

I had a backing plate on my 4" explode as well. After that I went with the EDGE pad system. I like the EDGE on my PC for the double sided pads and quick size changes when needed. Pop on pop off.

I think depending on what the speed is, 5-6 is too much for extended usage on the 4". Maybe the torque is too much for it. Im led to believe this as my 6" plate is years old and has polished tons of cars and still runs like a champ.

I suggest the EDGE setup. I love mine!

I use my 4" pads exclusively on the PC and with M105 and 205 I apply pressure and speed 6 and have 0 problems. I do not remember the PN for the BP I have but I know it is a lot thicker then the 5" BP I had.

do you think this has anything to do with the counter weight saying 5" only? should we have a smaller one or not use it for small pads?

I only have experience using the #6 counterweight, but I've read that no one has felt any difference twixt the two counterweights during use of the machine.
I understand you must use the counterweight or your hands will shake off.

Just saw your e-mail, Kelvin. To be honest, those 2 3/4" black backing plates suck. PM me your order number and I'll send you a much better one that will fit your existing pads.

    Matt:
I just pickeu up a replacement backing plate to replace one that exploded on me as well. I will PM you my recent order to see if I ordered the correct replacement. I will send you the PM when I get home tonight.

Lucky that no one was hurt when it exploded.

So what is the part number of the Backing Plate that should be used ?

    AUTOGEEK Part Number please.

I know some people who use 4" Pads 100% of the time... but fail to be able to tell me what is the best Packing Plate to use.
