Souveran not smooth?
I am currently using Pinnacle's pre-wax stripper, then Souveran wax, and finally their after spray that it doesn't produce the smooth typical wax like finish I have been accustomed to with other products. I use the detailer after every wash as well and the wax has been on since 9/07 and 2k miles. It is garaged, not a daily driver, and not purposly driven in the rain.
Is this normal for the product or am I doing something wrong? I applied all by hand.
Thanks

Re: Souveran not smooth?
You aren't doing anything wrong, you just left out a step . Dirt, tar, sap and other ultra fine contaminants get bonded to your paint even though you can't see them. A clay bar is designed to remove this junk and to leave you with a perfectly smooth surface. Pinnacle's Ulta poly clay and a quick detailer is all you'll need to preform this step. Welcome to AGO.
Here's what your next detail should look like:
Wash
Clay
Polish (light to remove any marring, if needed)
Paint cleaner
Souveran

Re: Souveran not smooth?
I'm not sure what you mean. What is it about the finish that is different? Is it something you could show in pics? BTW - over 4 months is a little long for most waxes to last and very long for a beauty wax such as Souveran.

Like the others I not sure exactly what you mean as far a producing a smooth typical wax like finish. I use Souveran as the LSP on a number of my cars. I do like to use a paint sealant like Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant before apply Souveran. My paint always feels very slick.

Re: Souveran not smooth?
when using the Souveran kit as described, you should notice a notable glow especially when using on darker finishes. If the finish does Not feel smooth, then claying or paint cleaning is needed.

My finish is always slick feeling. Claybar after washing then rinse. Then apply the Souveran. I have the spray wax and I like the look and feel!

Re: Souveran not smooth?
Thanks for the warm welcome.
I noticed some commented about not understanding my "not smooth" situation. The typical rag test ie rag sliding off the finish passes with flying colors, and water beads beautifully as well. But when I run my finger over the finish it makes a squeeling noise similiar to when you use Windex etc. while cleaning windows. And there seems be be alot of friction.
I guess the clay bar should do it though. Can someone recommend a grit for dark colors? I don't want to chance scratching the finish with too rough a bar.
Thanks for all the info!

Re: Souveran not smooth?
Pinnacles Ultra clay is great for most finishes, and find only some need to move to a more aggressive clay.
Clay Test --- take a baggie or piece of saran wrap and cover your hand. Try to glide across the paint, if it studders or stumbles than car can benefit from claying !
