Excellent job everyone and thanks for sharing!

Detailers today sure have a lot of options with all the great tools and products available :xyxthumbs:

THANK YOU Mike, Nick and Autogeek!! Nuf Said..

Boot Camp was awesome!! Three days of solid work, knowledge transfer, and training on REAL cars as you can see in the pics. ;) I came into this class with some knowledge of detailing, and some real life experience. However when Boot Camp was done I left with a wealth of knowledge and a much higher skill set. In class you use a wide range of tools and car care products. Autogeek spares no expense.

I am in the process of building a business so naturally this line of work requires some pretty expensive tools and products to get a decent start. Having access to all these things enabled me to find what I like, what worked for me, and what didn't. Otherwise most people are stuck making an investment and hope that it performs as advertised or up to your expectations. For example after using all the DA polishers I personally loved the Flex 3401 "DAS GOOD"! I was set on getting another manufacturer before, but now I am glad I waited till after the class to make this purchase.

To summarize my thoughts, Mike Phillips Detailing Boot Camp was a big win! Real cars with real defects, top of the line equipment and products, and a Pro over your shoulder. You also meet a great group of people and can share your experiences with them. I loved our class.

This class was key for me to pursue my passion at a higher level.

Best to all,
Rob

holy cow l@@k at that shine... i cant see im blinded by the reflections. cant wait untill september, for another autogeek boot camp saweeeet !!

The owner of the 2004 black Chevy SSR sent me this today via e-mail

Mike,

Can't start to thank you enought for the GREAT job your students did on my 2005 Black SSR.

I just got back in town and wanted to make sure I sent this. If there is ANYTHING I can do for you, please do not hesitate to ask.

John

Thanks John but earning your trust with your prized Chevy SSR is more than enough.

Share Autogeek.com and AutogeekOnline.NET with all your car buddies and keep in mind I'm looking for 7 more training cars for our upcoming class September 25th, 26th and 27th.

Its a great thing to see the owners appreciation and to make them smile! Thanks for passing that on to us.

I agree and I have feedback from the owners of the other cars to share also as I get time.

Because some of the people that attend our classes are not "forum people" too often we never see their feedback on the forum.

I will be sharing their feedback from the feedback form we pass out at the end of each class. Stay tuned for these testimonies and a HUGE thank you to all our students that to take the time to join our forum and share their experience.

As I stated in the class I sincerely appreciate it when the people that attend these classes take the time to jump through the hurdles and create an account to post their feedback.

If anyone ever needs help creating their account just give me a call and I'll do it while we're on the phone. It's not that hard.

Richard, the owner of the 2000 black Corvette we detailed was at our Cars & Coffee car show last weekend with his black Corvette that we detailed in our class and he said the class did a WONDERFUL job and the car didn't look this good the day he bought it!

I took a picture of Richard talking to my buddy Joe at the Cars & Coffee car show while they were looking at and talking about the results. Not there's no longer any swirls in the paint where the sun is shining down on the hood. (kind of cloudy at that morning)

Thanks Richard for trusting Autogeek with your Corvette!

The Flex 3401 Car Detailing Class - Hands-on real-world training

Training car: 2005 Black Chevy SSR
The Flex 3401 training car for the July 2015 Detailing Boot Camp Class belongs to my friend John who purchased this truck in the condition you see it.

I made a promise to John that after he dropped his prized SSR off with Autogeek the next time he sees it he won't recognize it and he'll think it was repainted.

Here it is on display at one of Autogeek's monthly Cars & Coffee car show out on the lawn.

Using the bright overhead sun I capture the swirls and scratches in the paint.

The day before the class I documented the condition of the while she was in our Show Car Garage using the overhead florescent lights. Same story, horrific swirls and scratches throughout the entire finish on the Chevy SSR.

Step 1 - Washing

On Friday morning we washed 3 of the 8 cars used for this 3-day detailing class including the,

2000 Corvette
2004 Corvette
2005 Chevy SSR

We used the DP Wheel Cleaner and an assortment of brushes to start with washing the wheels and tires first.

Next the class sprayed all 3 cars down with Iron X to chemically decontaminate the paint.

After that the cars were foamed using the Autogeek Foam Gun along with DP Xtreme Foam Formula Autowash Shampoo.

After thoroughly washing using the aggressive wash approach I teach in all my classes the cars were all dried off using the DP Turbo Car Dryer and Guzzler Waffle Weave Drying Towels.

Step 2 - Mechanically decontaminate the paint

During the washing step we chemically decontaminated the paint using Iron X but this doesn't remove the above surface bonded contaminants like,
  • Overspray paint
  • Industrial fallout
  • Traffic pollution
  • Tree sap
Flex 4301 + Nanoskin Autoscrub Pads
In my Flex 3401 how-to book I recommend using the Nanoskin Pads on the Flex 3401 for the smoothest paint possible when trying to create that show car look.

Gloss comes from a smooth surface so one of the goals you're trying to reach when creating a show car finish it to make the paint as smooth as possible and in my experience there's no better way to do this than the Flex 3401 with Nanoskin pads and PLENTY of clay lube.

For the clay lube we used DP Universal Clay Lube.

Nanoskin offers two Autoscrub pads in 6" which work perfect on the factory 5.5" backing plate on the Flex 3401

Techniques for using the Flex 3401 to decontaminate paint
After going over how these two tools work together and then a demonstration on correct technique it was time for some hands-on practice and training.

Step 3 - Perform a Test Spot

After the paint was decontaminated and all the clay lube was wiped off the next thing we go over in our Flex 3401 class is how to perform a test spot and dial in a process that works perfect.

When working on BLACK paint it's vitally important to get it right the first time.

For our testing we used,

Compounding = Wolfgang Uber Compound with the Lake Country Hybrid Orange Foam Cutting pads.

Polishing = Wolfgang Finishing Glaze with the Lake Country Hybrid White Foam Polishing Pads.

Waxing = Wolfgang Fuzion Paste Wax with the Lake Country Hybrid Red Foam Waxing Pads.

We also go over how to measure paint thickness using a paint thickness gauge. In the shot below we're measuring the paint thickness on a section before we buffed and then again on the side we used for the test spot.

Step 4 - Machine compound the paint
After going over the correct techniques for using the Flex 3401 to compound, polish and wax it's time for hands-on training. The paint on this SSR is really in bad shape so the class has their work cut out for them.

Step 5 - Machine polishing the paint
After the compounding step to remove all the major and minor defects the next step is to machine polish.

Nick works really hard in these classes making sure everyone is taken care of and all questions are answered in a timely manner. The payoff is he gets to drive a lot of cool cars. (I'm behind the camera)
