In my book, DSGs, PDKs etc are still manuals since they still have a clutch(es) and not torque converters. They just happen to be controlled by, or assisted by a computer.
What you said above is true for dual clutch automated manual transmissions, but generally untrue for traditional torque converter autos.
Fact.

How about taking this a step further. Who has driven a:
3 on the tree?
Or maybe even a non synchronized manual?

6 speed in my summer vehicle, 5 speed in my winter vehicle and 13 in my work vehicle. Gotta pay attention, sometimes I forget which one I'm in. Wife's suv is auto, I drive it occasionally and get caught going for the ghost shifter/clutch!

My dad once had a 1 ton dodge van with slant 6, 3 on the tree and 4 drum brakes as a company vehicle. I don't recall him saying anything good about that setup lol.

I learned on an old Ford that had 3 on the tree non sync gears so every shift required double clutching. It was awesome but required some serious leg strength. haha.

Been driving my 6 speed TL for the last 6 years. At this point, I can't imagine going back to an automatic.

I learned how to drive a stick on a 67 Falcon 6cyl 3 on the tree with no brakes. We were parting it out to save a mustang. It was fun, in retrospect I wish we would have saved the falcon too.

Re: Roll Call! Who drives a MANUAL transmission?
After driving stick for close to 20 yrs I got an automatic. The first couple months I would occasionally hit the brake pedal with my left foot looking for the clutch. There's times now that I miss having a stick, but I really like my truck and don't see truck options with a manual in the future.
