Polyurethane protection... translation is they sealed it. Proceed as normal.
The interior hasn't been mentioned... so I'm thinking that's a no. I hope not because the owner is a heavy smoker.

Good luck if you are asked to do the interior. Did a GTI this weekend of a heavy smoker, spent 2.5 hours on interior leather/plastics and vacuuming alone...

Good thing it had unblemished cloth seats...

Good luck, you'll be fine! I would recommend taking pictures and using the inspection form that Mike created. Always CYA even though it's a friend, you never know.

Heavy smokers cars are never good. i once spent 4.5 hours just on interior cleaning and removing smoke smell. If you do have to do interior AND remove smoke smell, make sure you have the customer change their cabin air filter asap. It will help a lot.

    Re: Ready or not...

Well kids, my detail job for this weekend got pushed back till August.

However, I picked up another one... I need to stop doing this

This one will be much harder.
    It's a 1998 BLACK Mustang GT.

This thing has NEVER had a detail, and the paint is BEAT!
Swirls, chips, scratches and a little CC failure in a few spots to add to the difficulty level.
Luckily this guy knows what he has. I already told him I am staying away from the cc spots. He's fine with it.

It's actually a great practice car, because, honestly, I don't think you could make the paint worse on this thing. And any improvements I make he's gonna be thrilled with.

I will definitely document this and let you all know how it goes

For the clear coat issue I would go lightly over it but I would also seal the heck out of it so it stops where it is.
