    Opti-Coat Over Blued Steel Firearm

What do you guys think - would it bond, and would it protect and prevent corrosion?

Would other coatings be a better match?

I've thought about this as well and my honest answer is; I don't know.

The bluing on some of my firearms is absolutely gorgeous and I would like nothing more than to find a coating like this would preserve that coating line an invisible shield. You could prep the surface in an inconspicuous area and perform a test and see what you think. You could also shoot Dr. G at Optimum an email and I'm certain he'd supplied an educated answer.

assuming its a semi-auto pistol, id probably try a test spot on the inside of the slide. thatll be a really good test.

I read another post where he said it would bond to stainless if it had been prepped. Alcohol should be ok to use on blued steel, as long as some protection was applied soon afterwards.

I guess my concern would be that it would somehow seal in either moisture or that some part of either opti-coat or the solvent that keeps it in suspension is corrosive to blued steel, causing it to pit or rust.

I realize it would quickly wear away on moving parts, but if it simply kept the outside of the gun looking new it would be awesome!

This isnt mine - but imagine this beautiful "Turnbull High Polish Charcoal Blue" finish but able to withstand holster wear!

That would be very interesting if Opti-Coatings
would bond to, let's say: "Controlled Rust".

BTW: Ever try CorrosionX on blued steel?

Then there's: 3in1 oil, Rem oil, Turtle Wax, etc.
