'Darkside Scientific' develops light-up paint
Here's an interesting article I ran into this morning on a new paint system. I figured everyone would want a heads up in case this turns into the next big thing.
$400 to cover a skateboard Reminds me of House of Kolor prices when Kameleon paint was brand new.
**There's a link with the original article at the bottom of this post.
Darkside Scientific, a startup in Medina, has seen the future of cool - entire paint jobs on cars that can light up at the flip of a switch.
The combination of paint and lighting could be a crossover product for two of the most popular segments of the car-customizer industry -- hot rod paint jobs and custom light kits. The Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association trade group estimates that hot rodders spent $36.5 million last year on custom paint jobs and another $166.2 million on custom light kits.
A skateboard-size swath of light-up paint could cost as much as $400, Zsinko said. The company chose to focus on hot rods and custom motorcycles initially because customizers are often willing to spend big to get unique rides. And what could be cooler than a flame that actually flicker?

I give it 5 years and Kylon will offer a form of it in spray can for and it will be the on every primered up oil burning honda around town. Seriously though I would love to see someone do a nice set of flames on a mini truck or body dropped full size truck. That would be a AWESOME photo op to see glow in the dark flames with the frame dragging down the street at night.

I hope! I'd love to spray my bike for safer night time driving. If loud pipes save lives....loud paint should do the same

hummm.... legal loop holes, as it's not a light bulb, led or reflector, yet does have a lume value to it.
tie the power to the rpm of the vehicle. as the decel happens and flames shoot from the exhaust, the electric pulses to the pain and makes the flames flicker.
wonder if this would work on steel panels. might cause some grounding issues.
hummm. several things come to mind.

If it turns out to be really cool they'll outlaw it...
Might create a new interest in flame jobs, or business lettering...

Shoot, tie it directly to the tach, and have the color/luminosity follow the rpm- intensifies as rpm's increase, reduces as rpms decrease.. one heck of a shift light when racing! ha!
Quick, get it to Bruno!

I wonder if that paint can be sprayed on human skin.
Halloween is coming up, plus I can think of a few interesting light up places on the girlfriend.
