???makita brushes???

Ok guys I hope someone can help with this?? I went to check the brushes on my buffer and hey great there still like new.. then I go to put them back in and the brass wire that connects the brush to the round metal piece you know inside the spring? It Broke ### so my question can it be dropped in and used or do I have to wait till the new ones get here :'( ?? Sort for no pictures

Oh sorry for not saying it but it actually does work/run the plastic covers get real hot though is this gonna lead to damage or is it ok because as you said it should not be running Idk?
