I don't consider using alternative methods of enforcing speed limits "1984". I don't see why so many people think a speed camera, red light camera etc are taking freedom away. If you are speeding, and would normally get a ticket for it, then you deserve it. If you do it enough, then awesome, you get your license revoked. You (as in everyone who feels this way, not you personally) obviously do not care for others around you and you decide to break the law you should get punished for it. Laws exist for a reason.

The cameras should not be ran by third companies, but the county that they are in. The fines should be decent too.. here in Orlando, the red light fine is $500 and a nice amount of points... that will be effective for every person that runs a light and they will not do it again. Make the speed fine the same as they are if a officer catches you..

If you don't want a ticket, then slow down.. its easy as.

They actually do in D.C. There are several neighborhoods that are really bad. One neighborhood had a shooting almost everyday for a few weeks in D.C. that they installed camera's to monitor activity. They also have camera's setup on the streets of Baltimore, especially in the bad neighborhoods.

There is a small town near me that put up a speed camera on I-95 and the state made them take it down.

Give an inch and government takes a mile. I would rather be able to walk the streets and not be watched by an eye in the sky. I can take care of myself.

The arguments that these cameras are being put up for "safety" is laughable, but that's all it takes to make people feel good about them and not question their necessity.

This is all about revenue, period. The red light cameras are notorious for having shortened yellow light periods and actually increase the likelihood of rear end collisions because paranoid drivers hit their brakes when they shouldn't, or it's not necessary.

There's a big difference between an officer catching someone and a camera catching someone. The officer actually has a brain and can use it to determine if the person is actually endangering those around them or not. If mine is the only vehicle on the road I'm not hurting anyone by going 5-7 MPH over the posted limit, but a camera can't make that determination and not issue me a ticket. An officer can -- and I've had that happen multiple times on the highway, go right by a cop with the cruise pegged at 7 over and they didn't do a thing.

They just started monitoring traffic lights in the county next to me. $158!!

That is TWICE the price of a normal moving violation and I am a bit upset over that.

All that has to be done is the cameras to be set for a + over the speed limit before it hits you. If a county is setting the cameras at the actual speed limit that is ridiculous as they have to account for sped drift and other give ways. I know in FL there is not even a speed ticket until you go 6 over.

I have dealt with proper speed cameras, red light cameras and avg speed cameras for a long time and have never had any issues. It all comes down to the people who control and the people who drive.

Like Alko said, in D.C. we have it all: red light and speeding cameras, and on just about every federal building and in high crime areas cameras situated in positions to cover all angles. It's the new reality. From what I understand, in Great Britain cameras are on just about every corner. It can be a blessing or a curse. We went through all of the discussions, arguments, and debates. In the end, the cameras went up.

Re: I am very upset over this

The cameras that I went through in the South Denver area caught me just befotre I reached the intersection during a yellow light that turned red.

The lights that flashed for the photos were so bright, it was blinding for a moment and I saw spots. They sent me photos of me in my vehicle along with a fine for $75.00. It was late in the evening, after 10 pm, and I was not happy with the flashes/spots. The photo shows it.

If it helps reduce the accidents at intersections, great. If it causes people temporary blindness, I think that might just defeat the purpose. I know the money sure isn't going to the road/highway improvement fund, our roads here suck!!!

I think this is the proper way that a speed camera should be used/set up

It truly can help but in the same light it is an encroachment into our lives... I am not saying this because I have stuff to hid but honestly the government controls my money, cars, job, home/property, water, electricity, and is moving towards my freedoms! I feel it is not needed as badly as people think it is and it truly is a big money scheme!

So TRUE!!!! I was a passenger in a car that went through a yellow light at night the stupid cameras are set up here to shoot first and send later kinda like the Denver and Arvada PD... Those lights are so bright that I couldn't see for about 5 seconds that is a huge danger!!!!
