    Facebook Cause.

I've never done any of these before, but I started a "cause" for buying American Goods/Products only for set periods of time. I will start at two weeks, October 1-14. The exception will be for things like gas.

Buy American Only: Two week Challenge. | causes.com

The goal of this cause is to bring awareness to everyone how important our everyday purchases are to our economy, and how important it is to support your country.

Any facebook users interested to join?

Should be pretty easy for detailers and auto-geeks, since a vast number of detailing products are made in the good ol USA.

OK, this is a real pet peeve of mine..

I think buying American products is as important as keeping "One Nation Under God" in the Pledge Of Allegiance". You know, like NBC did the other day. These scumbags felt it best to leave "One Nation Under God" out of their advertisement because it might offend 1 or 2 people somewhere....

GM, Ford, Chrysler, John Deer, Porter Cable, Dewalt, and the list goes on and on, have their parts manufactured in China, Mexico, Japan, The Philippines, and Vietnam. They do this for pennies on the dollar then expect us to pay $35,000 for an "American Made" car full of parts made outside this country!

All of these companies have built plants in these countries to harness the cheap labor, no worker protection, no worker insurance, no benefits, or chemical restrictions. I've seen one GM plant in Mexico and it's at least 2 miles long with all the cars and trucks we see on our American lots sitting right out front on concrete pads as proof.

Do you have any idea why we don't hear allot from General Motors in the US, other than they need the US Government to financially bail them out? It's because they sell approximately 3 times the number of cars in CHINA as they do in the US...

Ross Perot said; If NAFTA passes that Giant sucking sound you'll hear is all the American manufacturing jobs moving out of this country and over seas...... We can still hear that sucking sound today..

Who passed NAFTA?.................The politicians you and I elected to office to represent us, protect us, to secure and ensure our progress and way of life... Sponsored and Paid for by Corporate America

When "American Companies" begin caring about "American Workers" as much as they do about PROFIT then you'll begin to see America return.

That said, how do we buy American Made?

    OK, I'm off the podium.....

    Re: Facebook Cause.

I think this is a great idea, and for the most part I try and do a lot of research when I buy things to find out where they are made, or where the parts come from. The sad fact is there are somethings you just CAN'T buy American. I was watching a show, I think Dateline NBC or something, about this topic and something as simple as certain type of light bulb could not be bought "American". This light bulb was ONLY manufactured overseas. That story not only pissed me off, but also inspired me to do as much research as possible.

I think this is a GREAT cause, and would be happy to join!

I don't do facebook, but I like your idea.

I agree with BobbyG's assessment. 'Made in America from foreign parts' is like bailing water from the boat with a sieve.

I try to buy 'made in the USA' but it is hard to find things that are. It used to be that foreign products were inferior in quality, but that isn't the case now.

I'll stay off the soapbox, but taxes and regulations are also to blame.

Good luck with that! The masses of America handed control over to Republicans during the last midterm and we all see what they've been doing since. Fighting for special interests, entitlement programs, tax breaks for corporations and the rich, all the while doing everything they can to break the middle class apart and move them into poverty.

Corporations are downsizing, taking away employee rights and benefits, and as far as I'm concerned we're in a downward spiral that simply must be stopped.

Only because Americans have taught them how to build stuff properly. We've already given away the farm.

Generally, "causes" (especially in the context of fb) are about people feeling better about these issues, thinking they can do something that could have an effect.

    Re: Facebook Cause.

I agree and although I don't do FB I'm all about it! Also I think we need to elect people that will actually work for our country instead of for other countries. Unfortunately there are forces at work that pit the dems and repubs against each other all in show to make you think you have two seperate choices. In reality its the same team. Independant thinkers are made to look like fools by the controlled media and the pop culture that was infiltrated by the communists after they were defeated militarily. And after the tv says it enough each American (with a few exceptions) walks around believing what they were told to believe.

There is light in the darkness guys. Some manufacturing is moving back to the US. Due to fuel and shipping costs as well as the rise in cost of labor in other countries some companies are moving labor for us sold products back to the US. It used to be that manufacturing cost about 16$ an hour in the US compared to 0.50c in China. Now its closer to $12 compared to 4$ if I remember the article correctly... Then you factor in the shipping costs and complications and it has become more palitable. The largest furniture maker in the US and Caterpillar are two of the bigger examples cited in the article.

'Under god' was not added to the pledge of allegiance until 1954. Perhaps your NBC program was being true to the original writing of the pledge. https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikiped..._of_Allegiance

Perhaps Bill, but after a serious "tar & feathering" / backlash they received after this aired resulting in a huge apology from NBC I suspect not...
