If for some reason it does need an engine it's getting traded in asap and I'm leaning towards something boring, boring or boring...death of a car guy

Re: Can you Believe this is a Hyundai
Not jumping to conclusions here - this could be something as simple as a faulty sensor or even sensor connection - but just as an FYI a good friend of mine had an engine failure in his Hyundai (Sonata or Elantra, couldn't tell you for sure) pre-pandemic and Hyundai smothered him with quality service. Gave him a loaner, replaced the motor, and started a fresh 10 year warranty. He lives in the South Loop and drove to Deer Park every day so racked up lots of miles in all kinds of weather. I've always been impressed with his car (he's NOT a car guy even though he is an engineer for a major car supplier, they are just necessary tools to him) especially for the price and I couldn't tell any difference at all between the vehicle pre and post-replacement.
So just a data point for you.

Reason: correct Deerfield to Deer Park and Elantara to Elantra - why no strikethru effect available?

Re: Can you Believe this is a Hyundai
Thanks Karl, much appreciated and I'd like them to atleast replace the knock sensor AND add diletric grease. I've read about bad harness' too and if that's the case, well, maybe it can't handle frequent carwashes but don't even know where it's located.
I've also read about an update where the computer is adjusted where the knock sensor isn't so sensitive.
The light doesn't come on till I'm about 100' out of the carwash but this only just started happening 3 weeks ago.
Once again, thanks for the info, it's all going in my back pocket

Re: Can you Believe this is a Hyundai
Sorry to hear about this. Since it always seems to pop up when you go to the car wash, I have a feeling water is getting in somewhere it shouldn't and it's corroded the sensor. It could be the connecting rod bearing wear, but I would hope they would be more durable. You're car isn't that old. Either way, it just takes a service department actually doing their job to do some trouble shooting and not just blowing you off...repeatedly...
My mother-in-law is having a horrible time getting her Genesis G90 serviced at the local Hyundia dealership, so your experience sadly isn't unique. In fact, after not hearing a single positive dealership experience (sales or service) from any Hyundai owners I know, I've written off the brand for now. There were a couple models I was going to recommend to some family members, but that isn't happening now. The whole easy theft of non-push button starter models didn't help things either.
Even if the car does need an engine and you dump it, don't let that be the "death of a car guy". Being a car enthusiast isn't about a single brand. Getting totally wrapped up in one brand limits you in so many ways and you miss so many potential opportunities. There are still fun cars out there, you just need to try out a lot of different things to see what else you like. I'm a survivor. I've been a big BMW fan since the 90's and I've owned two. My achievable dream was to own/drive an M3. However, since my last experience, I've walked away from BMW fandom. Their sales/service are quite good in my area, but the cars themselves are fat pigs with limp, soggy steering and dampers lacking proper rebound control. Reliability is a crap shoot as well and don't get me started on their current designs... If it hadn't been for being so underwhelmed with my last BMW, I would have never even looked at my BRZ. I'm totally brand agnostic, but that type of car was never on my radar. Until I drove one... The rest is history.
Hopefully this will be resolved and things will be fine. If not, don't panic and whatever you do, don't buy a boring car/SUV!!

Re: Can you Believe this is a Hyundai
So I got a txt about 9 a.m. telling me my car was ready, they had replaced the knock sensor. Now while I'm happy about this I'm wondering if we're dealing with "parts changers" or an accurate diagnosis
I'll be picking it up in a couple hours and while I'm sure it's fixed the true test is when I go through the car wash, if it passes that it's truely FIXED
Stay "tuned".....

Well yesterday was judgement day and verdict was.....
NOT GUILTY of making me bummed out!
I ran it through the touch-free wash, pulled over to dry it, started it back up and NO flashing 1326 code
