    Re: Look out 2026.....kill switches

Is this any different from what most of the companies have already built into their vehicles for years?

GM OnStar has had the ability to disable a vehicle when requested by law enforcement for some time now. I know my new Subaru BRZ has it as well.

While the capability exists, I don't believe either company (or others like it), can disable the vehicle unless you're a paying member of that automakers telematics subscription service. If you don't pay for the service, they can't disable the vehicle.

Hackers can most likely disable just about any car built in the last 4~5 years with some sort of telematic capability. 3~4 years ago there was video about a Jeep Grand Cherokee being taken over remotely from half way across the country. I believe shutting it off was part of the scenario in addition to operating other functions. Just to make you sleep better at night...

Having anything In / installed in a vehicle is just a conveinence for the powers that be.Anything that uses any type of electricity or electric current the govt. can shut them down as needed-- trust me on this, I know from my military exp.

At this point, it doesn't bother me.
I don't plan to do anything to have 'the man' shut my car off, but I guess you never know.....my kids aren't teenagers yet.
