Are most of them originating from Central America?

I was in Maine a few summers ago and they were entirely laying down new asphalt on entire stretches of road. No patchwork pothole repairs.

Yup. Like I said before, I guess the states in New England use "magic asphalt".

Re: Pothole Hell
Some of these road sections just need to be redone vs patching over and over.
But driving right now is like a non-stop autocross.

SE PA is a mess this time of year and you really need to keep your eyes on the road, luckily my go-cart (CaymanS) maneuvers easily, the pickup truck not so much.

Re: Pothole Hell
I'm not in New England, but I've noticed our micro-Ice Age in February really did a number on the roads.
The normal winter freeze/thaw cycle always leads to some problems on streets, but lately I'm seeing holes opening up on our highways which can make things rather exciting when you try to dodge them and avoid all the other traffic. You also get stuck with the "no-win" situations too. We visited some friends in KC two weeks ago and when exiting the highway, the lane for the exit ramp was bordered by a seam in the asphalt. The freeze/thaw had completely destroyed that seam the ENTIRE length of the exit ramp! Getting off the highway became a, "brace for impact" scenario in my car. You just take a line that hopefully gets you across the holes in the shortest distance you can safely cross the canyon that formed between the lanes.
