Mustang GT gets some new upholstery
Well my 05 GT finally had the dreaded door inserts let lose. I guess I'm lucky to have had them stay intact for 15 years. Probably because it's a garage queen and doesn't come out much. I had the car at the shop over the summer to fix a leak in the rear diff at the drive shaft. It was one of the hottest days of the year. Temps that day reached 117 and the car sat outside for quite a while in the hot sun. When I came to pick up the car, both door inserts had let lose.
Luckily I found a great upholstery shop in Mesa who said they could do the job. Not only did they take the work, but they also are on stand-by from Ford Dealerships for all their repair work. Steve at Autospa Customs was fantastic to work with. The quality was outstanding and his customer service was equally outstanding.
I had called about 8 upholstery shops before I called Steve. All 8 shops stated they did not want to take the job on. Their reason was sound; a crappy design by Ford. As soon as I said Mustang they said "good luck." The design by Ford is crappy in that they did not take a separate panel, wrap it in the faux leather, then affix the panel to the door insert like other manufacturers and later Mustangs. Instead, Ford has one molded door insert and used a boat-load of glue to adhere the faux leather to the door.
There are many "DYI" kits available for 2005-2010 Mustangs, but the job is horrendous. You have to grind out the foam glue that is still stuck to the door insert. Being my 9th call, I started off by begging and pleading, Steve laughed, cut me off and abruptly said "I'll do it". And not only do it, but guarantee it too. I was able to remove the door inserts myself and just drop those off so that the Mustang didn't have to sit in his shop or lot.
While Steve worked on the door inserts, I took the opportunity to replace all the speakers in the vehicle with JBL's That was another job unto itself once I discovered the wiring harnesses from Crutchfield have the polarity backwards... Anyway, I digress... I could not be more thrilled with his work. Here are some pics.

Ha! 15 years is actually a good stretch for the 05-10 Mustangs... Just a bad design by Ford...

Yeah it looks great Its hard to accept that the 2005 Mustang is 15 yrs old now, I tried to buy one then but living in the D it was tough because they were so popular and they made more getting them out the door and not to the locals with all the plans through Ford family members. I settled for a 2 year lease of a Crossfire Limited

They look excellent. I remember seeing those fail very quickly back when they were produced. I still really like those cars, and would love to have one in either Vista blue or Windveil blue.
