Re: What did you do today non-detailing related?

So this is a funny one. Yesterday I set up an inflatable pool in the backyard for my kids. My backyard is sloped but 5 years ago we had a 18x6 square leveled out for a swing set. They have outgrown it and wanted a pool. I put in for a permit to get an inground pool last summer but it was denied by my town. Politics and crap. Anyway, I got them an Intex inflatable pool w pump and all for this summer. They enjoyed it yesterday as it was 93 degrees. Its 12 feet in diameter and goes 30” high but we only have it filled up to 17”. Its a test setup for getting a larger one next year.

Today they got home from fishing at 12pm. It was 95 and humid. We went to take the cover off and were just standing there admiring the pool and splash, darn thing buckled. Luckily noone was in it. But approx 1100 gallons of water wasted. If someone were in it they would not have been ejected because its small and it gave way slowly.

We had a laugh and then made some adjustments and rebuilt the thing. We enjoyed it all day today. I’m worried tomorrow the same thing will happen. Truth be told the directions say the ground needs to be 100% level which mine is not. I filled it up a little less this time so fingers crossed for tomorrow. If it happens again Imm just going to have the ground properly leveled. This was a test after all but I guess shortcuts dont pay off - learned the hard way.

I finished the digging yesterday and said that's enough work for the day. Today I found the problem...

The clay elbow was completely and tightly clogged. Now I need to make a Home Depot run. I'm going to replace that clay elbow with ABS.

I still don't understand though why snaking did not clear the clog. Before I put this back together I'm going to run the snake down through the roof vent and see if it comes out the cast iron pipe from the house. It should. And I've always been able to successfully snake out this line in the past. Oh well... at least I found the problem and the repair won't be too difficult. It could have been worse if the problem was in the cast iron coming from the house... If that were the case I'd be busting out slab.

Sewer Line Repair Complete!!! Works like a champ. Now I can take a bath/shower LOL.

All that is left is to backfill the hole, clean up my mess, and plant a little grass seed (or a few pieces of sod).

Saved myself probably a couple grand for two days of hard work. That makes me happy.

Definitely saved yourself a couple grand. Props for digging that big hole and getting it fixed.

100%. Six hours worth of digging. Not bad for a 68 year-old heh?

The second from the left shovel had the same handle length as the one to its left. I had to shorten it to dig once I got down in the hole. I had to dig nearly 4 ft. deep.

100% Complete... Backfilled, grass seed planted, all my tools cleaned and put away, even my filthy, muddy clothes laundered. Glad to put this behind me.

And for the future, this exercise could come in handy if any troubleshooting is necessary since I now know how everything is routed.
