Thinking about buying a Legacy or Fusion - any thoughts?
I currently drive a GMC Sierra Crew Cab - it's really nice but I don't have the need for a truck anymore. Living in ND means all different types of weather and several months with snow and ice. I would like to move back to a car with AWD.
I have been looking at the Subaru Legacy and Ford Fusion but can't decide which to purchase. When I was looking at the Legacy's on the dealers lot I noticed almost everyone of them had scratches around the door handles which leads me to believe they have really soft paint if they look like that already.
The Subaru is a little less money and has better resale value but I am leaning towards the Fusion. Anybody have experience with these models that you can share?
Thanks!

The Outback is a very practical car..but has no style, in my opinion. The Fusion looks better, and for that i would go with it. Subaru paint can vary from my experience, but a recent 2015 i did in Silver was super soft ( and also had a lot of small scratches).

I have an Outback '17 and my wife has '17 Fusion. While I love my Outback there is a definite difference in quality between the two. The Ford Fusion I think is better. But there's also a big price difference. Both car handled well in the snow last winter. Can't speak to the Legacy but I'm a truck guy as well but for economical reasons went with the Outback and I'm very happy with that.

I have/had two Subarus that I've driven to over 250000 miles with basically just regular service. Only thing I really had to replace was the battery and tires.
I love them, but it kinda sad to see them blending with the other mundane daily drivers. I always liked how Subarus used to stand out a little from the crowd.
I can't say to much about the Fusion. A good friend does have one that they've had to take in for some small stuff here and there. Right now it needs a water pump replaced, I'm not sure on their mileage.

Fusions have transmission problems dating back to 2012.They still can't fix them my client .leased a 16 ford been in the shop twice. One more time she is bailing out under the lemon law in the state of fla.Subaru is the way to go,great quality car that will last way past a Ford expendacy.Every car has issues but seems like ford products are among the highest.

Piece of gunk just Google all the problems associated with the fusio.People are buying kia and hyndai just can't beat the warranty and very stylish for not that much money. It's like the 05 06 f series power stroke diesel promblems. You will be at the dealer every 3 months with transmission promblems. This is not just heresay my brother and sister in law had the same promblems.Once you by it forget about resale value.know one wants to buy one for this reason .

Legacy or outback for more utility between the two
Lower cost of ownership and better reliability Acura has a car with awd too but priced higher
I'm guessing awd is what you are looking for that takes out a lot of car people are going to recommend that are not awd.

^^ came here to post exactly this. Their Auto Transmissions are poor IMO. We used to use Ford Fusions and SUV's for company cars but they nearly all had Transmission problems. Heat and highway driving seems to kill them. Even my company car which was a 2010 Fusion Sport failed at 62k miles. I like the styling of the new ones but I wouldn't trust it long term.
Just my experience.

wife has a '15 legacy and loves it. no issues other than scheduled maint.
awd and some utility for dogs/gardening stuff were her two requirements. she didn't really shop other vehicles due to so many of her friends raving about subarus.
